Callahan rubbed his temples. "Everything was going smoothly, but lately…" He then recounted the series of events that had occurred since Leilani had come home from work that one evening. "I have no idea what I did to make her so angry, and when I ask, she says nothing. I try to apologize, and she treats me like I'm invisible."
Eventually, Callahan had run out of ideas. Anyone would have their limits, and being treated that way for no apparent reason was starting to wear on him.
After hearing the full story, Judie stroked her chin thoughtfully. "Do you think... maybe she misunderstood something about you?" After all, men and women often thought very differently. For someone with Leilani's personality to give Callahan the cold shoulder, it had to be a serious misunderstanding.
Callahan paused, not having considered that before.
Judie pressed on. "Callahan, I think you need to sit down with Leilani and have a proper talk to figure out what she's misunderstood. And you need to step up. Look, if you want a real future with her, you can’t let your pride get in the way. Besides, there are plenty of guys just waiting for a chance with her."
If Callahan let this standoff continue, someone else might just swoop in.
Callahan shot her a cool look. "Are you trying to comfort me or discourage me?"
"Comforting you, of course!" Judie declared, patting his shoulder. "Listen to me, I have complete faith in you. You just need to believe in your own charm! Clear up this misunderstanding, then go through with the proposal as planned. It'll be a guaranteed success!"
Despite Judie’s enthusiastic encouragement, Callahan fell into a rare, long silence. "Do you think... she'll say yes?"
Judie froze, then her eyes widened. "Callahan, don't tell me you're nervous?" Seeing him refuse to answer, she couldn't help but stifle a laugh. "Wow, I never thought I'd see the day the great Callahan Langley gets cold feet! Relax, I think your chances are pretty high. Maybe a grand gesture is exactly what she's waiting for."
