Callahan had arranged the hotel well in advance. It was located right in the heart of the city, exuding an air of understated luxury.
At the front desk, a receptionist in a crisp, tailored uniform took Callahan's passport and reservation details. After a swift check on her computer, a flawless, professional smile bloomed on her face, and she gave a slight bow.
"Good evening, Mr. Langley, Ms. Sloan. Welcome. Your Presidential Suite on the top floor is ready."
She efficiently processed the paperwork and handed over two sleek key cards along with a welcome envelope, using both hands in a gesture of utmost respect.
"Here are your room keys. A complimentary arrangement of fresh fruit and pastries has been placed in your suite. Your 24-hour butler service is active—should you need anything, simply press the call button in your room." Her gaze swept over them, her tone incredibly polite. "We wish you a wonderful stay and hope our service exceeds your expectations."
Callahan took the keys, offered a brief word of thanks, and naturally grabbed the handle of Leilani's small suitcase. Keeping his other arm securely around her waist, he guided her toward the elevators.
Leilani glanced down at the booking confirmation slip Callahan had just been handed. Her eyes lingered on the words "Luxury Suite - 1 Room" for two full seconds. Then, she looked up at the man beside her, a teasing smirk playing on her lips.
Feeling her gaze, he looked down and raised an eyebrow. "What is it?"
Leilani waved the slip of paper. "Care to explain this, Mr. Langley?"
Callahan didn't even blink. "Explain what?"
Leilani pointedly tapped the room key.
Callahan acted as if he had just realized what she meant. With a perfectly straight face, he reasoned, "The suite offers plenty of space. It'll be convenient for sorting out the gear and going over our itinerary. Besides..."
He tilted his head, his eyes gleaming with self-righteous confidence behind his glasses. "You're my fiancée now. Is sharing a room a problem?"
Of course it wasn't a problem.
Leilani just hadn't expected him to be so unapologetically bold about it.
His utter confidence made it hard for her to argue.
She clicked her tongue in mock amazement, letting him lead her into the elevator.
"Callahan, I'm discovering new levels of your shamelessness every day."
