"Milford! Oh my God, look at you! Are you okay?"
Before Milford could even attempt to answer, Gloria dissolved into absolute hysterics.
In his entire life, Milford had never suffered anything worse than a scraped knee.
This was all Fitch's fault! If he hadn't picked a massive fight out of nowhere, Milford would never have stormed out of the house, and none of this would have happened.
"This is all your father's fault!" Gloria wailed. "He's completely lost his mind over the Sloan Group! He's perfectly willing to use his own children as collateral damage!"
"I'm divorcing him! I refuse to stay in that house for another second!"
"Mom, please!" Milford groaned, desperately trying to cut through her panic.
She was spiraling into her own world and refusing to listen. "It looks so much worse than it is. I'm fine."
As for the divorce threat, he completely ignored it. She was hysterical and speaking entirely out of anger. As furious as he was with his father, he wasn't about to encourage his parents to end their marriage.
Gloria didn't even process his attempt at damage control. She was entirely fixated on the bandages.
Saying it didn't hurt was a blatant lie. If it wasn't catastrophic, why was his entire torso wrapped up?
She stared at the thick layers of gauze, looking like her own heart was being ripped out. But hearing his voice did manage to pull her slightly out of her hysteria.
It was only then that she realized they weren't alone in the room.
The second she spotted Yvonne, her fear instantly turned to misplaced rage.
"Yvonne! What on earth is wrong with you?!" Gloria snapped. "Your brother was literally dying, and you didn't even bother to call me?! If he hadn't made it... how was I supposed to survive that?!"
First Yvonne's accident years ago, and now Milford. Why were her children cursed?
