The Ugly Wife’s Stunning Comeback (Felicia and Max) novel Chapter 775

So Felicia's lifelong struggles, her current agonizing torment, and all those years Darin had spent walking on eggshells and living in constant fear under the Foxhall family roof meant absolutely nothing in Yvonne's eyes.

Hearing Darin's dark, low chuckle filtering through the phone, Yvonne felt a sudden chill run down her spine. Realizing her words had been a bit too harsh, she was just about to soften her tone when Darin's cold, unquestionable voice cut her off completely.

"Mom, you and Andrea are not to step a single foot out of Highfield Manor. You can stay locked up until I get back, and then you'll both issue a proper apology."

Yvonne's face contorted in shock. "Darin, how dare you..."

Before she could finish her sentence, Darin hung up. He immediately dialed another number, barking out a chilling order. "Send a team to guard Highfield Manor right now. Under no circumstances are Mrs. Curtis or Miss Curtis allowed to step outside."

"Understood."

As he lowered his phone, Darin stared blankly into the distance. Even though brilliant sunlight cascaded all around him, an overwhelming sense of endless sorrow radiated from his frame.

Standing nearby, Max quietly observed the tension stiffening Darin's back. At that moment, Max's own phone began to vibrate. Glancing at the screen, he saw it was a call from Miranda. He pressed the answer button. "Hello, Grandmother."

"Max, I heard you took Anne with you to Australia," Miranda stated flatly.

"Yes," Max confirmed. "Is there something you need, Grandmother?"

"Why on earth did you suddenly run off to Australia?"

"Grandmother, if you have something to say, just say it directly."

Miranda's tone grew uncharacteristically grave. "I've heard some troubling rumors..."

Before she could finish, Max ruthlessly cut her off. "You know exactly what you should and shouldn't be listening to, Grandmother. I trust you possess your own judgment."

Miranda fell silent for a long moment before trying again. "Max, I know you're doing this for Anne. But you must also consider your own reputation and the standing of the Hawthorne family."

"Grandmother, you of all people should know that I utterly despise being coerced by anyone or any public opinion."
