Yvonne stared at Felicia with wide, terrified eyes.
"The guests haven't left yet," Felicia continued smoothly. "Do you really intend to make everyone wait for nothing? Holden went through a lot of trouble to make this a massive spectacle. If the groom doesn't show up and the bride goes missing, how exactly are you going to explain this to his family?"
Yvonne turned ghostly pale. She knew exactly what Felicia was trying to do. Desperate, she looked over at Darin, who simply stood there in complete silence, allowing Felicia to do as she pleased. He remained utterly indifferent to Yvonne's pleading gaze.
Max's expression was just as detached. Even though Felicia had just ripped open their ugly past and publicly humiliated him, he didn't even flinch.
Jeremy stepped forward, his voice like ice. "Mrs. Curtis, I suggest you take Andrea back upstairs."
Felicia had already guessed why Holden was a no-show today. That was exactly why she had clearly told Darin earlier that she fully expected to see Holden at the event. Now, facing her biological mother, Felicia maintained a serene exterior. But the agonizing betrayal tearing at her heart was something only she could truly comprehend. For anyone, it would be an unbearable, soul-crushing pain.
Allen marched over to Darin. "Darin, please let my sister leave."
"Allen, stay out of this," Darin replied, his voice laced with heavy exhaustion but leaving absolutely no room for argument.
Allen turned his gaze back to Felicia. Piecing together her earlier conversation with Andrea, he realized that this woman had to be Max's ex-wife. The Curtis family had partnered with Roen Capital before, and he had seen her at banquets. The rumors had painted Max's wife as a hideous, unbearable woman who had eventually left. He came to his own conclusion that she had been ruthlessly forced out.
Now that she was back, she was clearly out for blood. The fact that Darin was actively helping her while their own mother stood by, completely paralyzed and unable to defend Andrea, made Allen pause. He looked closer at Felicia and noticed the unmistakable similarities between her features and his mother's. A wave of realization washed over him, followed by a profound sense of absurdity.
