The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell novel Chapter 1242

“You’re wrong,” Alexander said, his voice soft. “You and I have never been the same kind of people.”

What he wanted was never supreme power or a world-consuming empire.

All he wanted was for Danielle to be safe, for the truth buried years ago to come to light, and for The Davidson Group to continue on a righteous path.

Hold’s expression finally darkened. “Is that your way of refusing me?”

“Yes,” Alexander confirmed. “I will not work with you.”

Hold stared at him for a long moment, his eyes dark as he tried to gauge the sincerity of his words.

Finally, a cold smile spread across his lips. “Good. Very good.”

“You’ve got backbone, Alexander. I’ll give you that.”

He picked up the cigar from the nightstand, holding it between his fingers without lighting it.

He gave Alexander one last, deep look, as if to burn his image into his mind.

“Since you insist on choosing the hardest path, I’ll be watching.”

Hold’s voice was as cold as ice. “I hope you don’t regret this.”

With that, he turned and walked out.

The moment the door clicked shut, Alexander slowly closed his eyes, leaning his head back against the headboard in exhaustion.

The wound in his chest began to throb again, but his heart felt strangely calm.

Refusing Harold meant he would remain under Lorie’s thumb, that his journey through this treacherous game would become even more difficult.

But he had no other choice.

He couldn’t risk Danielle’s safety, nor could he use national secrets as bargaining chips in a dirty transaction.
