Danielle could certainly leave—there was nothing tying her to Northridge City anymore. But her mother was still here.
Her mother’s business in Northridge was stable enough, and she was more than capable of managing it herself. The only thing Danielle worried about was her uncle.
Her uncle was due for surgery soon.
Gian regarded Danielle with steady, thoughtful eyes. “It’s entirely your decision. Ninesky Technologies is opening a new branch—remember, we discussed this at the last meeting? It’ll be in Nexus Prime. You could head up the office there, oversee our international operations.”
Sometimes, stepping away from everything familiar is the only way to start over.
Danielle had already been considering this. Working in the same industry in Northridge, she always seemed to cross paths with Alexander. Now that he was president of the business association, every major project required her to meet with him. And for the two of them, those encounters were rarely pleasant.
She answered, “You don’t need to give me time to think it over. I’m willing to take the position in Nexus Prime. I’ll bring my daughter with me. I just need to settle things at home first.”
Mr. Hawthorne looked at her warmly. “No rush. I’ll let them know you’re coming, but you take as much time as you need to get your affairs in order.”
“As long as you want to go, they’ll wait for you.”
Danielle nodded.
Mr. Hawthorne added gently, “It’s a new place, a fresh start—you’ll be on your own there. And you’ll have Niki with you. Everything will be different, all over again.”
Danielle shook her head, a small smile on her lips.
She’d never lacked the courage to begin again.
This was her chance to build something of her own, brick by brick, climbing higher every step of the way.
Gian said, “Kirsten and I will visit you often once you’re settled.”
