Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 303

The second the trauma room doors closed, Madeline just crumpled. Her legs gave out and she hit the floor, her face ghostly pale. Blood was everywhere, staining her hands. It was her child’s blood, so bright it hurt to look at. Cold seeped all through her body, until she was shaking with pure fear. The pain from her injury still throbbed, but it was nothing compared to the agony in her chest.

Julian stood nearby, fists clenched, his usually handsome face set in stone. He was trying to keep it together, but his eyes were filled with pain. Everything felt suffocating.

Julian glanced down, about to reach for Madeline, but he stopped himself, his hand hovering awkwardly in the air.

“Julian…” Helene hurried over, pushing Lucy’s wheelchair.

When Helene spoke, Madeline’s eyes flickered, a sharp, fierce look flashing across her face.

Lucy glanced between Madeline and Julian, worry etched all over her face. She hesitated, then finally asked, “How’s the child? Is he…?”

Julian just looked down, silent. Lucy’s heart dropped. She’d never liked Madeline’s child, but she’d never wanted anything like this to happen. The image of that little boy, so small and covered in blood, haunted her.

“This is just evil,” Lucy muttered, her voice shaking. “Who could do something like this to a kid?” And to pin it on the Grayson family, in their own home, no less. What kind of person would do that?

Helene watched Madeline sitting on the floor, defeated. For a second, a tiny smile tugged at her lips. That poor boy probably wouldn’t make it through the night. Finally, one less problem to worry about. All her careful planning was about to pay off.
