Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 420

The woman held the old man’s gaze for a few silent seconds. Then, to Christian’s shock, she slowly knelt before him, her posture full of respect.

“Grandpa.”

Christian stared at her like he couldn’t believe what he was seeing. “You? Madeline, what are you doing? No, wait…”

He got up so fast he forgot about his cane and steadied himself against the desk as he moved closer. He studied her face, frowning, searching for answers. She looked exactly like Madeline. Even her voice and the way she held herself were the same. But Madeline would never kneel like this, and she would never call him Grandpa.

“You’re not Madeline. Who are you?”

The woman lifted her eyes to meet his, then quietly pulled up her sleeve and showed a faint scar on her arm. “Grandpa, it’s me. Claire.”

Christian’s whole body went rigid. His eyes locked on the scar, and disbelief flickered across his face. He stared at her for what felt like forever before he found his voice again. “You… are you really Claire?”

Claire nodded, tears gathering in her eyes. “Yes, Grandpa. It’s me. I’m Claire.”

“You? But… I don’t…” Christian was at a loss for words. It took him a long time to speak again. “You… you didn’t die back then?”

Claire was Brian’s adopted daughter. That accident all those years ago had taken Brian’s life, and Claire disappeared at the same time. Everyone thought she was dead too.

No one ever expected her to come back.

Now, if she hadn’t said it herself, Christian would never have believed it was really Claire.

“Yes, Grandpa, I survived.” Claire’s eyes shimmered with tears. “I’m sorry. It’s been thirteen years, and this is how we meet again.”

Christian reached out without thinking and helped her to her feet. “Get up, child. Don’t apologize. I’m just so happy you’re alive. It’s just…”

He looked at her face, still dazed. She looked so much like Madeline. Every little thing about her was the same.

Claire touched her own cheek and gave a small, gentle smile. “Are you wondering why I look exactly like Madeline, Grandpa?”

“For eight years, until I turned twenty-three, I went through surgery after surgery. I studied everything about Madeline—how she walked, how she smiled, every detail. What do you think, Grandpa? Did I get it right?”
