Madeline looked away fast, her cheeks burning. Julian watched her blush deepen and found her even more irresistible. He lowered his head, brushing his cheek against hers. “Madeline, I’m a guy, and this is normal. Why are you so shy?”
Out of breath, Madeline slapped her hand over his shameless mouth, her face turning even redder. “Shut up.” Julian let her cover his mouth, nodding like he was being good.
She glared at him. “So, what are you going to do now?” Julian gently pulled her hand away, holding it in his palm. He pressed a soft kiss to her knuckles, his lips curling into a teasing smile. “You could help me out, you know.”
Madeline yanked her hand back and shot him a glare. “Keep dreaming. And if you try to kiss me again, I will slap you. Don’t test me.”
He just laughed, clearly in a great mood. Nothing she said could get under his skin. He leaned in, taking his time, and pressed an intimate kiss to her soft earlobe.
A sharp smack echoed as her hand connected with his cheek.
Julian paused, a little surprised, then looked up at her, still smiling like nothing happened. “Feel any better?” He leaned closer, his face just inches from hers. “Want to hit me again? Go ahead.”
Madeline stared at him. “You really want another slap?”
Whether or not she’d felt better, Julian definitely hat. He dipped down and brushed a kiss over her tempting lips, his voice dropping to a low murmur. “Madeline, I’m really happy today. Happier than I’ve ever been…”
“Happy enough to ask for another slap?” she shot back.
Julian laughed softly. “Madeline, you’re hilarious.”
She lifted her gaze, meeting his dark, smiling eyes. There was nothing forceful in them, just endless warmth and affection.
Her heart fluttered, and her hands at her sides curled into little fists.
