Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 440

Julian paused, let out a sigh, and simply said, “The car’s broken.”

Madeline eyed him, trying to read his intentions. Was he really planning to stay? In his dreams.

Acting clueless, she just said, “Hold on a sec.”

Julian looked confused as Madeline pulled out her car keys. She patiently explained where her car was parked. “Take mine. Just have someone bring it back for me tomorrow.”

He looked down at the keys resting in her palm and suddenly grinned. She was doing this on purpose.

“Want to guess how I managed to get those two out of the house?” he asked.

Madeline blinked at him. “How?”

“I told Christian I’d die without you. If I go back now, do you think that stubborn guy will just come find you tonight?”

Madeline glanced at the two kids holding her hands. With Christian’s stubborn, overbearing personality, she had no doubt he’d actually do it. So Julian was basically saying, where the kids went, he went. If he left, so did they.

She was at a loss for words.

Julian let his gaze linger on Madeline for a moment. Her hair was half dry, and she was wearing simple cotton pajamas that made her look even more delicate and petite.

“Are you cold?” he asked quietly.

The apartment was warm, but standing by the open door, she could feel the chilly air sneaking in.

Julian didn’t say anything else. He stepped inside, his tall frame filling the doorway, making Madeline instinctively take a step back.

Tonight, he was wearing a gray sweater and black pants under a black coat. Without his usual crisp suit, he looked more relaxed, almost tired. Being so close to him, Madeline felt even smaller and more fragile.

The door closed behind them. In the living room, the movie was almost over, the sound fading away. Suddenly, the sound of running water from the bathroom became clear as day.

Julian frowned. Someone else was here.

His heart clenched a little.
