Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 607

“You won’t. If you’re not drinking, I’m not either.”

If Julian didn’t drink, no one else would even try pushing drinks on him.

After thinking for a second, Madeline said, “Can we eat dinner first, then go?”

Julian smiled, just a hint of it showing. “Whatever you want.”

He turned to his phone. “You guys go ahead, we’ll join you later.”

“Sounds good!”

Madeline knew Golden Glow was where all the rich kids liked to go play. She didn’t go to places a lot. Maybe once or twice, and that was only because Brenda dragged her along.

As she finished talking, Madeline started toward the kitchen. Julian followed right behind. “Let me help.”

“You?” Madeline sized him up, then laughed, gently nudging him back. “No way. You look way too good tonight. If you get any of that kitchen smell on your clothes, you’ll have to get changed again.”

“It’s rare to hear you compliment me,” Julian teased, the smile still on his lips.

“Go on, out. Seriously.”

“I don’t mind changing again.”

Madeline let out a small laugh. “Okay, so what can you actually do?”

“What do you need me to do?”

She pointed at a pile of vegetables. “If you really want to help, you can wash those.”

Julian rolled up his sleeves, unbuttoning his cufflinks with a focused look. It was obvious he’d never done this before. He was awkward with it, totally out of his element.

The housekeepers quietly slipped away, leaving the two of them alone.

“Tonight’s party is for a friend of mine who just got out of prison,” Julian said, washing the vegetables the best he could. “Josh and a couple others are throwing him a welcome-back dinner.”

Madeline paused for a moment, then carried on getting things ready as if nothing happened. “So why did he end up in prison, anyway?”

Julian didn’t look up. His hands moved slowly over the lettuce. “He killed someone by accident. For a woman.”

Madeline turned to stare at him. His answer made her heart skip.

It couldn’t be who she was thinking of… could it?

She made a few simple dishes, the kind Noah and Oliver liked best. When dinner was over and she'd changed, she came downstairs to find Julian waiting for her in the living room.

“We’ll just hang out for a bit,” Julian told her, wrapping an arm around her waist like it was second nature. “If you don’t like it, we’ll come back early.”

Madeline nodded. “Alright.”

In the car, she stared out the window, restless. Maybe it was what Julian said before dinner, but everything felt a little off. Suddenly something clicked in her mind. She looked over at him. “That friend you mentioned… is his name Mitch?”

Julian nodded. “Do you know him?”

Madeline’s eyebrows lifted, just a little.

So it was him.
