A dark light flickered in Jane’s eyes. “Of course not. Why should we be the ones to leave? Don’t worry, we haven’t lost yet. They won’t be gloating for long.”
“But Julian was so good to Madeline today. Do you think he’s remembered something?”
“No.” Jane shook her head. “If Julian really remembered Madeline, given how protective he used to be of her, do you think we would have gotten out of there so easily today?”
Jane had been around the block and saw some things more clearly than Alianna did.
“That’s good.” Alianna breathed a sigh of relief. As long as Julian hadn’t remembered Madeline, she still had a chance.
“Mom, you always told me not to rush things with Julian, to take it slow. But you see now, Madeline is back, and he’s being so nice to her. If I don’t make a move soon, there won’t be any room for me by his side.”
Alianna stomped her foot in frustration.
Jane considered for a moment. “Perhaps I was too hesitant before. I was afraid that if you rushed it, you’d annoy Julian, but I never expected…”
Jane shook her head.
She never expected that after a year of painstakingly placing Alianna by Julian’s side, he would still treat her like she was invisible.
Jane was getting anxious too. “It seems we need a new long-term plan.”
“Mom, if I become Julian’s woman, Once we sleep together, he’ll be forced to commit to me, right? Besides, Christian doesn’t like Madeline, and he seemed to want to set Julian and me up before.”
Jane was startled. “Are you planning on drugging Julian?”
Alianna blushed and nodded.
“Absolutely not. If Julian were that easy to handle, someone else would have become Mrs. Grayson long ago. That plan is too risky. If we get caught, we’ll have truly and completely angered him.”
Alianna looked frustrated. “Then what do I do? Am I really out of options?”
“There’s always a way. We’ll go home and think this through. For now, we need to figure out how to stay by Ray’s side.”
They wanted to kick her and Alianna out? Not a chance.
The living room fell quiet.
After the evening’s drama, Shelly was exhausted, and her expression was grim.
Madeline moved closer to Shelly and supported her. “Mom, you don’t look well. What’s wrong?”
