Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 647

Madeline was just starting to get her strength back, but it didn’t last long. Soon, she fell asleep again, her breathing soft and even.

Julian watched her for a few moments, his eyes gentle in a way that almost didn’t seem real. He leaned down, kissing her softly on the forehead, as if she was the most precious thing in the world to him.

After sitting by her side for a bit, he finally stood and stepped out into the hallway.

Miles and the others were still outside, keeping watch. As Julian walked out, Miles dipped his head. “Boss.”

“Yeah.”

Julian’s gaze shifted to the man leaning casually against the wall nearby.

Casey flipped a metal lighter open and closed, a hint of fire glowing between his long fingers. The light danced across his striking, dangerous features, but his expression stayed cold as ever.

“How is she?” Casey asked.

“Her injuries are taken care of.”

“I meant her eyes.” Casey tilted his head, his eyes sharp and icy as they landed on Julian.

An uneasy silence grew between them.

A nurse walked by on her rounds, stuttering in her steps as she noticed the two imposing men outside the room. Distracted, she fumbled with her metal tray, dropping it with a loud crash.

Julian and Casey both frowned at the noise.

Julian looked over at the flustered nurse. “Careful, please. My wife’s resting.”

The nurse mumbled her apologies and hurried away, cheeks blazing.

Julian turned back and let out a weary sigh. “Her cornea’s badly damaged. It can’t be fixed, not really. The only option is a transplant.”

Casey snapped the lighter shut, his eyes growing even colder.

A cornea transplant meant waiting for a donor. No one knew how long that would take—or if it would ever happen.
