Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 654

“The Ballard family’s head already made it crystal clear. Can’t you all hear it? She’s definitely not Ms. Ballard.”

“She looks crazy. That’s kind of scary.”

“I know, right? She’s got such a pretty face but she’s acting totally insane. If she really was Ms. Ballard, she wouldn’t be freaking out like this.”

“Exactly. If she were the real Ms. Ballard, she’d just demand a DNA test, not scream like a banshee. It’s embarrassing.”

All around the room, people shot Claire looks full of contempt and disgust.

“She has absolutely zero class. You’d think she was raised in a barn.”

“I really don’t think she’s Ms. Ballard.”

“Same here. And honestly, Mrs.Ballard wouldn’t mistake her own daughter.”

The murmurs from the guests just kept getting louder, and Claire felt herself right on the edge of losing it.

She never could have guessed Shelly would do something like this.

How did she find out?

Everything was fine this morning.

Did Julian and the others already spill everything to her?

Damn it. That had to be what happened.

And if that’s true, she must know Madeline is missing, too.

Claire marched straight toward Shelly, her eyes full of fury. She kept her voice low and sharp. “Shelly, I don’t care how you found out, but listen to me. If you want to know where your daughter is, just admit I’m your daughter. Tell them I’m the real one.”

“What’s so funny? You really don’t care if Madeline lives or dies, do you? You’re colder than I thought.”

Shelly just smiled and shook her head. “If you won’t tell me where my daughter is... maybe I’ll just tell you instead.”

“What are you talking about?”

Claire’s mind was spinning. She couldn’t make sense of anything Shelly was saying.

A cool, calm voice drifted from the crowd. “Claire, I’m right here.”

Claire’s heart dropped straight to her stomach. Wide-eyed, she turned to look off the stage, almost robotic.

There, in the crowd, stood a woman in a light beige coat. One hand rested gently on the arm of the man next to her. Her face was mostly hidden by soft white bandages over her eyes, but that voice was impossible to mistake.
