"If you really felt that way, Jane, why didn't you say anything earlier?"

Jane forced a faint smile, leaning over to pour a cup of tea. "I was just so startled earlier, I froze. Please, let me apologize."

She offered the cup to Madeline.

Madeline glanced at it, keeping her hands at her sides.

"No need. We're both guests here. It doesn't make sense for you to wait on me."

Despite the rejection, Jane shamelessly pressed closer. "I'm truly sorry, I really mean it."

Madeline frowned, taking a step back. But Jane stumbled, tipping the teacup and sending hot liquid spilling all over Madeline's clothes.

Pinned against the sofa, she couldn't retreat any further. A massive dark stain spread across her shirt and pants.

"Oh my goodness!" Jane gasped, frantically setting the cup down and grabbing tissues to dab at the fabric. "I am so sorry! I didn't mean to! Did it burn you, Madeline? I'm so incredibly clumsy."

Jane looked like the picture of guilt.

Madeline swatted her hands away. Lucy, watching the scene unfold, frowned. "You're soaked, Madeline. Go upstairs and change. The clothes in your old room with Julian are still there. I never had them cleared out."

Looking at her ruined outfit, Madeline didn't argue. A maid led her toward the staircase.

"Ms. Monroe, Lucy has kept the master suite perfectly maintained for you and Mr. Grayson," the maid chatted as they walked. "Everything is exactly as you left it."

Lucy had always held out hope they'd move back in, keeping the suite frozen in time.

"The closet is still fully stocked with your size."

"Got it. Thanks."

The maid gestured to the walk-in closet before slipping out the door.

Downstairs, Alianna received a quick text from Jane. After comforting Denise with some empty platitudes, she made an excuse to step away, intentionally running into Lincoln just as he was leaving his room.

"Lincoln," Alianna greeted, flashing a bright smile.
