Denise's eyes widened in sheer terror. She opened her mouth to scream, but Lincoln clamped a sweaty hand over her face and violently dragged her backward into the bedroom.
Madeline barely managed a few steps before a searing heat tore through her veins. The drug was incredibly potent. After fighting Lincoln in a fumigated room for fifteen minutes, her legs were turning to lead. She wouldn't make it down the stairs like this.
Clutching her chest, she stumbled into a random guest bedroom and locked the door behind her.
Down in the living room, Alianna was practically buzzing with anticipation.
Checking the clock and deciding enough time had passed, she frowned in fake concern. "It's taking Madeline an awfully long time to change, isn't it?"
"You're right. It's been over twenty minutes," Jane chimed in perfectly on cue. "Do you think she's feeling unwell? Maybe we should go check on her."
The heavy double doors of the foyer suddenly swung open, cutting their performance short.
A tall, sharply dressed man in a charcoal designer suit strode into the hall, his expression carved from ice.
Every time Alianna saw Julian, her heart skipped a beat.
A maid hurried forward to take his jacket.
Julian slipped off his overcoat and handed it over.
"Mr. Grayson, Ms. Monroe and the young masters are here," the maid informed him.
"Mm," Julian hummed indifferently. His dark, penetrating gaze swept over the parlor, landing on Lucy, Jane, and Alianna. A shadow crossed his eyes.
Catching the shift in his demeanor, Lucy's smile deepened.
Even with his memories erased, Julian's attention was inextricably anchored to Madeline the moment she re-entered his orbit.
Her son was hopelessly devoted to that woman. No one else stood a chance.
"Mom," he greeted.
"Madeline is upstairs changing. Noah and Oliver are with Christian," Lucy said. "Oh, by the way, Christian wanted to speak with you when you arrived."
Julian gave a curt nod.
Completely ignored, Alianna shot to her feet.
If Julian got roped into a conversation with Christian, he might miss the main event entirely. She couldn't let that happen.
Moving quickly, she intercepted him.
Julian stepped back, his brows knitting in immediate distaste. "Don't crowd me."
