Year Five The Perfect Goodbye Plan novel Chapter 103

In the living room, Kent sat slightly reclined on the couch, his tailored suit accentuating the dignified, reserved air he carried. He looked every bit the consummate gentleman—cool, composed, and somehow untouchable.

His gaze was sharp, the kind that seemed able to see right through you, but in this moment, a rare warmth softened his features.

Kent spoke with ease as he addressed Silvia’s family, a polite smile lingering on his lips, never faltering. His conversation flowed effortlessly, drawing everyone in, and even Finn—who had started out dismissive—found himself gradually sitting up straighter, drawn into Kent’s orbit.

Despite Kent’s questionable behavior at the engagement party, Finn had to admit: the man was a genius when it came to business. Kent’s words were always measured, his manner unfailingly poised, yet he managed to keep the reins of the conversation firmly in his own hands, guiding everyone’s thoughts without ever seeming forceful.

He even wielded his negotiation skills on Garth, who soon found himself charmed and coaxed along, practically dancing to Kent’s tune.

What had started out as a tense atmosphere in the living room was gradually melting away into something far more relaxed under Kent’s influence. The group before him looked, for all the world, like a harmonious, happy family.

Silvia sat beside Kent, and as she took in the scene, a smile tugged at her lips, her eyes sparkling with quiet delight.

Her parents seemed genuinely pleased with him.

She hadn’t caught every word of the conversation, but soon Kent’s voice brought her back. He looked at her, his eyes gentle. “Silvia is wonderful. We get along really well, and there’s no conflict at home.”

“Sure,” Silvia replied without hesitation. Finn, on the other hand, immediately understood what Lola was really up to; she was giving Garth and Kent a chance to talk privately.

Once the three of them had disappeared into the kitchen, Garth turned his full attention to Kent. The cordiality vanished from his face, replaced by a stern, appraising look.

He didn’t bother with small talk. “The engagement party—what happened there is still a thorn in our side. When do you plan on dealing with it?”

Men understood each other, after all.
