Year Five: The Perfect Goodbye Plan novel Chapter 107

At four in the afternoon, Silvia left her desk, gathering her things. She was just about to head out when Amy approached.

“Leaving already, Silvia?” Amy adjusted her glasses, the gesture hiding the flicker of emotion in her eyes.

A few other coworkers glanced over, their stares tinged with something less than friendly. They’d heard all the polite talk about teamwork from the so-called “princess,” but everyone knew it was just lip service. When Silvia was tired and wanted to leave, she could do so whenever she pleased. For the rest of them—ordinary employees—even getting permission from Amy to take a day off was an ordeal.

Silvia pretended not to notice the silent resentment. She simply nodded, answering Amy’s question without a word.

“Is Mr. Finn waiting for you downstairs?” Amy asked in the next moment.

“Yeah. He said he’d meet me out front,” Silvia replied, turning to go.

Suddenly, Amy called out again, her lips curving in a faint, almost polite smile. “I need to deliver a contract to a client this evening. Would it be on your way? Would it be convenient?”

“Not really,” Silvia answered without hesitation, her tone firm.

They were going out to talk business, not to run personal errands for anyone. Besides, if Finn didn’t leave tonight, would Amy simply not deliver her contract at all?

Silvia felt perfectly justified in declining. She didn’t linger, turning on her heel and walking away.

She moved quickly, so she didn’t see the complicated expression that flickered across Amy’s face as she left.

As soon as Silvia got in the car, Finn drove her straight to Botanical Symphony.
