Perfect Husband, The Destined One novel Chapter 3407

Darryl was itching to join the fight but stopped himself, choosing to allow Dennis to play the hero.

Both sides fought ferociously, and screams of pain echoed through the cave entrance. In no time at all, six of Kit's men were already lying unconsciously on the ground while two of Dennis' men suffered some minor injuries. Dennis behaved heroically during the battle and kept swinging his sword at Kit, who was half-covered in blood.

"Fall back!" Kit shouted when he realized the battle was not in his favor. Kit and his men quickly descended the mountain. Before disappearing out of sight, Kit turned around and pointed at Dennis. "Mark my words, I will be back! Wait for me here to prove you're not a coward!" Then, he was gone.

Dennis and his men started to roar with laughter. "Is that all they have to offer? What a joke!" They were all drunk with happiness at their victory.

"Dennis, you're my hero! You were so brave out there!" Angeline smiled as she praised him.

Dennis felt as if he was on cloud nine. "Thank you for your praise, Princess. It is my honor to serve you. We can take our time looking through the cave now that those pesky flies are gone."

Angeline nodded, and together, the two of them entered the cave with the other guards following behind them.

Darryl smiled before entering the cave too. He was impressed at how skillful Dennis was at flattery.

The inside of the cave was huge but empty. Apart from some claw marks on the wall, there were no other signs of the dragon.

Angeline was disappointed.

"There's no need to be disheartened, Princess. I'm sure the dragon will be back since he had chosen this place as his lair. Why don't we wait for him here by staying the night?" Dennis' eyes were full of anticipation when he said that. He did not care about seeing the dragon at all. All he wanted to do was to spend more time with Angeline.

Angeline hesitated.

"No way!" Darryl said, walking up to Dennis. "The Princess shouldn't stay in the wild. We are going back now." Then turning to Angeline, he said, "The Queen will freak out if she can't find you in the palace."

"Shut up! You have no right to speak. What were you doing when those b*stards behaved so disrespectfully toward the Princess? Why didn't you join in the fight? You didn't help, so quit your nagging!" Dennis said.

"Yeah! I can't believe he's a front guard."

"He talks louder than he fights!"

"How did he get that position anyway?" the other guard said.

The insults came fast and loose, adding fuel to Darryl's fire but he managed to calm his anger, for the most important thing was to bring Angeline back to the palace and find the Holy Jade Scripture. There was no need to waste his breath with those people.
