Half an hour later, he had taken off his disguise and was walking out of the temple when he saw Thea outside.
"Darryl?! Why are you not in your disguise?" a startled Thea asked.
Darryl smiled and said, "There's no need for that anymore."
Thea thought about it and nodded. "You're right. You have a prominent status in the Temple of Light. No one in the whole of Pearl City would dare to behave impudently toward you. The Damien family has invited me to their banquet. I'm still contemplating whether I should go."
At that, Darryl could not help but laugh. "Why not? I'll make it worth your while. Let's go together!"
Thea nodded, and off they went. After a few minutes, they arrived at the Damien family's manor and were greeted with the sight of many fancy unicorn cars parked out front. The other families were there to suck up to the Damien family since they would soon control Pearl City.
The guards did not stop them from entering because Thea had an invitation card, but their eyes widened when they saw Darryl. 'Isn't that Master Darryl? How dare he show his face when he is the reason the Old Master is dead? A loser like him shouldn't be here at all!'
The guards wanted to capture him, but their courage left them when they saw Thea standing by him. Darryl paid no mind to them and walked into the hall with Thea. Once inside, he gasped at the scene before him. It seemed as if all the influential and prominent families in the whole of Pearl City were there. Donnie and Grady were standing in the middle, laughing and chatting with those around them.
Donnie was ecstatic. It was a happy surprise that he got his position back from Lolita. It was the cherry on top when the Goddess of Light personally chose the Damien family to manage Pearl City. He felt he deserved all that had happened to him.
As for Grady, he was all smiles too. Even though the McClaren family was not the one with control over the city, what difference would that make when Donnie was a puppet under his control? Once Donnie became the Mayor, it was as good as having control over the city.
As he looked at their happy faces, the corners of Darryl's mouth began to creep up in a mocking smile. He told Thea he would look for a place for them. He had decided to lay low since the Pegasus Paladin and the Golden Paladin were not here yet.
Then, he heard a sarcastic voice say, "Isn't that Pearl City's famous female captain, Captain Thea? Tsk. Trust her to show her face around here after absconding a month ago." A woman dressed to the nines walked up to them.
Thea immediately frowned when she laid eyes on her. She did not even bother to hide the disgust on her face. The woman was called Marnie, the eldest daughter in the Castro family, infamous for her biting remarks.
Thea's mood dropped. She never thought she would bump into that annoying woman there. Darryl was frowning too. 'D*mn it, what is Marnie doing here?' She was there for his wedding too, and there was no way he would forget what she said.
He secretly sized her up and noticed that the way she dressed had become even sexier than a month before. Her attire was a wine-red long gown that showed off her sexy collarbone and a deep side-slit that showed off her snow-white thigh.
