The deeper she went, the more frightened Alison was. She thought it was an ordinary tunnel, but she knew she was wrong when she saw the paved rocks underneath her feet. Soon, Alison arrived at the private room that Darryl was in before. She had a few hundred guards with her.
"Sect Master, this place seems to be an ancient ruin. There might be danger hidden all around us. Why don't you stay here, and I'll go investigate with the rest of the guards?" Rosalind said after scanning the other tunnel entrances. She had always been a cautious one, and her priority was to ensure Alison's safety at all costs.
However, Alison thought otherwise. "It's just an ancient ruin. Nothing to be afraid of." Determination streaked her exquisite face as she said that. As the sect master of the Fantasy Sect, it would be humiliating if she was frightened. More importantly, she wanted to recapture Madame Pandora and Darryl as soon as possible. After all, Darryl might be the only person in the world who could read the Holy Jade Scripture.
Alison started to deploy her guards. "Rosalind, take a few men and go down the tunnel of the left, and a few other men can take the tunnel of the right. The rest of you, follow me."
Rosalind did not say anything else. In no time at all, the few hundred guards had been divided into ten groups with a tunnel assigned to them. Alison also entered one of the tunnels with a hundred guards or so.
However, within a few steps, Alison heard a weird sound coming from the walls. It was evident someone had stepped on the wrong rock. She furrowed her brow and quickly signaled her guards to stop, but it was already too late. Instantly, arrows soaked in oil flew out at them.
"Extinguish the fire!" Alison shouted in a panic. The guards immediately extinguished the flaming torch they were holding, but even so, they did not see the cinder dropping on the ground, which instantly blazed up in a roaring fire.
Alison reacted quickly. She backed away from the fire and managed to avoid getting burned. However, her guards did not share the same fate as her. In a blink of an eye, hundreds of her men were engulfed in an ocean of flame. Their screams echoed through the tunnel as they were burned alive.
Alison trembled violently—in fear, shock, and anger. 'What kind of place is this?' she thought. There must be some priceless treasures there. She became excited and pushed on forward once the flames had died down.
Meanwhile, Darryl and Madame Pandora were cautiously proceeding on their path. They realized the path was blocked by a wall at the end of the tunnel, creating a deep abyss around them. Then, Darryl discovered that that maze-like place was ever-changing. Whoever built that place must be shockingly talented.
They tracked their way back and turned to another path before they came across a giant altar. Darryl gasped out in fright when he saw the huge altar—it had a few trap formations. Those kinds of formation could be considered high-level formations; they would not be able to come out once they went into it, not even when they were dead. The most shocking thing about the altar was the throne in the middle. It was carved from a pure-black stone, and someone was sitting on it quietly.
'Sh*t! There's someone there!' Darryl thought; he was in shock.
