The Nine Heaven Emperor thought about it and nodded. "We'll proceed as you said." Then he swept his eyes across everyone and said, "Deploy the troops and head straight to Ghost Mountain!"
"Yes, Your Majesty!"
Meanwhile, at Ghost Mountain, the Ghost Valley Sage was sitting in a beautiful yard and playing with his divination board on a stone table.
'It has been one day since Darryl entered the place where the demons were held captive. I wonder how he's doing.' The Ghost Valley Sage looked at the divination board and was about to divine Darryl's fortune when he suddenly sensed a fluctuation in the air.
He quickly looked in the direction where it was coming from and saw thousands of generals and soldiers sweeping across like a tsunami. In an instant, they had surrounded Ghost Mountain, and leading the army was none other than the majestic Nine Heaven Emperor.
The Ghost Valley Sage was stunned. He slowly got up and bowed to the Emperor. "Welcome to my humble abode, Your Majesty!" he said calmly. Anyone would have been scared shitless by the situation, but the Ghost Valley Sage was an extraordinary character, after all.
The Nine Heaven Emperor nodded and did not say anything else.
Grunt took a step forward and shouted, "Ghost Valley Sage, hand him over now!"
The Ghost Valley Sage frowned and asked, "Hand who over? I have no idea what you're talking about." Of course, he knew precisely who Grunt was referring to but decided to play dumb in hopes they would let it go.
"Stop playing dumb! Your attendant, Darryl, impersonated a Spirited Fruit Garden servant and His Majesty! He has incurred the wrath of the heavens, so you better hand him over if you know what's good for you," Grunt said coldly.
The Ghost Valley Sage took a deep breath. He might look calm on the outside, but he was nervous. 'Sh*t, the Nine Heaven Emperor found out what Darryl did. We're in deep sh*t now.'
However, at the same time, he was glad that Darryl was far away from the place where the demons were held captive. Otherwise, he might not make it out of there alive.
The Ghost Valley Sage smiled and said, "Oh, you mean my little attendant. Well, he's not here right now. You may search inside if you don't believe me."
Grunt laughed coldly and, without saying anything else, barged into the house with a few soldiers. He became furious when he came up empty-handed after searching for a while. He left the house and asked, "Where is he?"
The Ghost Valley Sage ignored him and turned to the Nine Heaven Emperor. "Your Majesty, what Darryl did was reckless, but he had a reason for doing that. He's not in the Godly Region right now, so I humbly ask Your Majesty to forgive him."
Grunt was beyond mad to be ignored by the Ghost Valley Sage and became even madder still when he heard what he said. "Shut up! Even if Darryl dies ten thousand times, it will still not be enough to atone for his crime of impersonating His Majesty. Do you really think we'll let the matter slide just because you asked us to?"
Finally, the Nine Heaven Emperor said, "Ghost Valley Sage, I've always respected you, and I believe you when you said that Darryl had his reasons for doing all the things he did, but I cannot let the fact that he had impersonated me slide. I'll go easy on you if you tell us where he is now."
His tone was mild when he said all that, but his eyes were burning with anger. It was natural for him to be that angry; he was the ruler of the Godly Region and held the fate of all those in the human world and ghost world in his hands. Darryl had desecrated his good name.
The Ghost Valley Sage exhaled lightly and shook his head. "I don't know where he is right now." His voice was not loud, but it was extremely firm. However, how would he not know when Darryl was his favorite disciple?
