His features twisted, but he did not utter a single word. Master Magaera grew impatient. He roared, "Out with it! Where's Archfiend Antigonus?"
Skylar merely smiled; he said nothing.
Master Magaera shouted with all his might, raising the Soul Slayer Whip in his hand and bringing it down onto Skylar's body once again.
The whip flew in the air like a golden dragon in flight. It emitted a series of bright cracks in the air, ringing around the grounds.
The troops felt their hearts thud heavily at the scene before them.
However, Skylar was silent the entire time.
…
Meanwhile, Grunt quickly gathered a few soldiers and rushed back to the Jade Fairyland.
Soon enough, he had delivered the lie he had meticulously planned out to the Nine Heavens Emperor.
What?
Instantly, everyone, including the Nine Heavens Emperor, Empress Heidi, and all the officials, got a huge shock.
The Nine Heavens Emperor snapped back to his senses quickly enough, staring at Grunt with a solemn look on his face. "What did you say? Darryl Darby took on Archfiend Antigonus' blood formation alone? There were no survivors?"
The Nine Heavens Emperor had sent Darryl to the Sealed Fiend Mountain with much confidence.
It was important to note that the Ancient Ancestor had bestowed Darryl with the title of the Nine Heaven Sage in front of all the gods. Someone good enough for the Ancient Ancestors was surely someone of decent power and skill.
He did not expect Darryl to fail on his very first mission.
Grunt's expression was the picture of grief as he knelt on the ground. He nodded and said, "Yes, Your Majesty. I tried my best to stop him, knowing how terrifying the blood formation was, but he did not listen at all. He said he was skilled with formations, and his capability trumped everyone in the Nine Mainland. He declared he would have no problem taking down the Archfiend Antigonus' blood formation, but—"
The Nine Heaven Emperor was speechless. "Careless, so very careless! It was my fault for placing too much trust into Darryl Darby."
Next to him, Empress Heidi was grieving as well. "He overestimated himself, that Darryl Darby."
Seeing their reactions made Grunt sigh in relief internally. He wore a gloomy expression, yet his heart was filled with nothing but glee.
'It was way too easy to fool the Nine Heaven Emperor! Oh, Darryl Darby, you mustn't blame me even if you die an unworthy death. Shouldn't have taken my Princess Dorothy from me back then, should you?'
Then, a thought seemed to come to Empress Heidi. She asked Grunt hurriedly, "Oh, right! Did you come across Princess Dorothy at all when you were at the Sealed Fiend Mountain?"
Grunt shook his head. "I'm afraid I did not."
