What was going on?
Yvette's gaze flashed. She walked forward briskly to pick it up, flip through it, and jerked in shock and excitement.
Was that Skylar's chant?
Oh, that was wonderful. With the chant, she would not have to worry about the Fiend Soul Takeover anymore.
Yet, amidst her glee, Yvette was also a little angry.
That man was too cunning. It was clear that Kendall had given him the scroll for safekeeping, implying that there had to be a certain level of trust between them. Yet the man insisted that he did not know where Kendall was.
"I'm going to give you one last chance!"
Yvette put the scroll away as she said coldly to Sergio, "Tell me where Kendall Jones is, or I won't spare you any mercy."
"I—"
Sergio flailed helplessly. He said, "She disappeared from an underground cave. I don't know where she is now, I promise—"
Sergio proceeded to describe what had happened. Of course, he left out the part where he took advantage of Kendall and only spoke of absorbing her energy.
As he spoke, Sergio's chest pounded with wariness. He did not know who the New World Empress was to Kendall. If they were friends, he would be done for.
He could not ask, so he could only give it a blind shot.
Finally, Sergio bowed endlessly. "Your Majesty, I'm telling the truth. None of that is false."
What?
Yvette's frown deepened in shock.
The man had absorbed Kendall's powers. Well, it served her right for her evil deeds—from betraying Skylar and absorbing his fiend soul, she had it coming.
As she pondered that, Yvette stared at Sergio. "Did Kendall Jones disappear from an underground cave?"
"Yes, I swear!" Sergio scrambled to nod hurriedly.
