The sky here was clear and boundless.
Military trucks were parked at the side of the road, and everyone was busy preparing for their evacuation.
In addition to the rescue team and the medical team that went back here on their way home, there was also a coach.
The flood was no longer a threat, and all the trapped residents had been rescued. But because the village was in a low-lying area, the floodwater had not yet sunk. Thus, it was very likely that other natural disasters would happen.
Most of the villagers were old people and children, so the government sent people here to transport them to a safe place.
The headquarters called Adam the day before yesterday, ordering him to make arrangements for today's evacuation.
In the past two days, the search-rescue mission in the vicinity of this village had also finished. There were no people trapped there, so their anti-flood mission here had finally come to an end.
Adam stood there, his dark eyes searching around. Not many people were in the medical team, and they were carrying medical equipment to the van. He did not see the familiar slender figure.
He frowned slightly and walked over on his military boots.
Leonardo popped out of the rear car window and asked, "Adam, are you looking for Anthea?"
"Where is she?" asked Adam.
Leonardo pointed forward. "She's over there!"
Adam looked over and saw Anthea under a big tree with her back to him.
She stood under the big flourish tree, her head down and her little hand on the bark.
A shadow cast down from overhead, blocking the cracks of light coming through the leaves. Anthea looked up and saw his cold and handsome face.
"What's wrong?" Adam asked with concern.
Anthea's voice was low, and she poked the trunk with her hand. "Nothing serious. I just don't want to leave this tree!"
The tree witnessed a lot of memorable moments between them.
This place, not as lively and prosperous as big cities, had a hard-living condition. It was not a romantic place at all. Despite all of this, they had
their first date here.
Adam looked at her lowered little face, her eyelashes leaving two curved shadows which moved as she blinked. It seemed that she was upset and had many worries.
He stretched out his big hand and rubbed her face. His fingertips with calluses coming from years of gun practicing were a little tough. "You don't want to leave me, right?"
As his deep voice came into her ears, Anthea suddenly reached out her hands to him with grievance. "Give me a hug!"
Looking at her pitiful little face, Adam let out a deep sigh in his heart and silently held her tightly into his arms.
Anthea looked pretty upset just now and murmured in low spirits, "I can't stay in J City any longer. I have to go back with the teacher because the school is about to start..."
Time passed quickly like sands slipping away through fingers.
When they had retreated for the first time, they agreed to meet in J City. However, they had received news halfway that the village had been marooned by the flood. Therefore, they had to rush over...
After they suffered so many hardships, it was the
end of August, and Anthea had to return to Ice city. Not only did she have to go back to the town to check in with her adoptive parents, but she also had to make preparations for school.
Since they were in a relationship, they had been staying in the disaster areas. During the day, they were busy saving and helping flood victims. Thus, they had been with each other for a very short time in general...
They would soon be separated again, so she could not help feeling upset.
Adam tightened his strong arms and trapped her in his arms, saying, "Hmm."
Anthea asked sullenly, "So, are we going to have a long-distance relationship from now on?"
There was still one year before he could be transferred back, and she had to go back to continue her studies. Adam and Anthea, one in the south and one in the north, had to be separated by the long distance.
"I guess so." Adam sighed.
