Adam leaned against the vehicle with a cigarette in his hand.
Next to the jeep was a large, leafy tree. The setting sun and the sunset glow shone down through the cracks of the tree, tinting him rosy red and making him even more gorgeous.
Anthea suddenly thought of the tree in the disaster area, under which they formalized their relationship.
In the disaster area, they were busy most time of the day. Whenever they were free, they would often go dating there. Under the tree, he held her hand, kissed her, and talked sweetly to her. These scenes of their past were still preserved in her memory.
All of this just happened a few years ago, but she felt it was ages ago.
Adam came here to see her. As soon as he spotted her, he put out the cigarette in his hand and stood up straight.
Anthea walked over and asked, "Are you looking for me here?"
"Yes." Adam nodded and opened the car door behind her. "I'm running errands for the chief and his wife. To thank you for your treatment, they especially
asked me to send you something."
There were many boxes on the back seats.
Anthea glanced at them and found that they were all tonics, including bird's nest and donkey-hide glue, which are good for girls.
She said, "They are too courteous. I just did what a doctor should do!"
Adam said, "It's just a token of their appreciation."
Since he had delivered these things here, it was not appropriate for her to ask him to take them back. She withdrew her eyes from the box and felt a little embarrassed. "But they give me too many things..."
She guessed that there were at least a dozen boxes, and some of them were pretty large.
Anthea alone certainly could not take them home.
Adam, seeing the opportunity, said, "I'll send you and these gifts to your home."
Anthea looked to the roadside. It was hard to get a taxi during rush hours when many people around just got off work.
She hesitated and nodded. "Okay."
Then, with her, Adam drove the military green jeep away from the private hospital.
It was a little congested on the road. About forty minutes later, they finally arrived at the apartment
building.
Adam parked the car. He was worried that she could not get so many things by herself, so he helped her carry the gift boxes to her apartment upstairs. Then, he placed them on the tea table in the living room.
Anthea poured him a glass of warm water.
When she took it out, she saw Adam pick up the cigarette box from the corner of the sofa.
He looked up at her and said, "Don't smoke anymore."
Anthea looked down and said, "Hmm..."
Adam took the cup of water from her hand and looked around the room, unwilling to miss every corner.
After finishing drinking the glass of water, he said, "Then I'll go."
Anthea nodded. She opened her mouth, wanting to say something, but she did not know what to say. In the end, she just watched after his receding figure.
Three days later, after Anthea got off work in the evening, she did not immediately return to her apartment but took a bus to the military hospital.
She came to visit the old chief to see his condition after the surgery.
A guarding soldier stood at the door of the ward. When she pushed the door open and walked in, she saw the old chief in a hospital gown on the bed.
