Kevin being the first to attack took everyone by surprise. We never thought a soft-spoken person like him could throw such a punch.
He could pack a hefty punch!
Carlos was so stunned that he couldn't utter a single word. He covered his chin with one hand, blood trickling down from the gaps between his fingers.
The bodyguards around Carlos froze for a moment before snapping out of their daze and dashing toward Kevin, their hands clenched.
"Are you sick of living?" one of them asked. "How dare you hit Mr. Carlos!"
Another shouted, "After him! Beat the living daylights out of him!"
The bodyguards roared as they advanced toward Kevin.
Even though Kevin looked pale, he stood before me and Lianne as if he wouldn't back down, even if it cost him his life.
"Evelyn, Lianne, run! I'll buy you some time," said Kevin, his voice grim.
Although his courage moved me, I couldn't help but worry for him. This street was secluded, and no one else was around but us. It was dusk, and the street lamp cast creepy shadows on the ground.
Carlos' bodyguards were all adept fighters. Kevin, on the other hand, was just an ordinary student.
Even if Kevin was good at fighting, he couldn't beat all of them alone. He was trying to resist the forces of Carlos and his bodyguards all by himself.
Lianne's face was drained of color as she gripped my arm anxiously. She looked like she was about to cry.
I took a deep breath to calm my anxious heart. Run away? If Lianne and I did that, Kevin wouldn't survive. But even if Lianne and I stayed, we couldn't put up a fight.
What should we do? I wracked my brain to come up with a feasible solution.
Just then, Carlos stood up unsteadily and wiped the blood from his mouth with a menacing look in his eyes. He was pissed.
"Evelyn!" he roared. "I gave you a chance, but you gave it up! I will have my revenge! I want you to suffer a fate worse than death!"
