How could Winnie possibly confess her relationship with James at such a critical moment? Mount Heavenly Path was determined to annihilate James, her father. If they knew that they were father and daughter, they would not let her off the hook easily.
“Is that so?” Full of disbelief, Melinda said, “Don’t lie to me, Winnie. Feel free to speak your mind. I will keep your secret. Do you not trust me?”
Winnie shook her head slightly and remained silent.
Seeing this, Melinda did not inquire further. She conversed with Winnie about other matters—James and the events that occurred when she met him in the Katun Realm.
“By the way…” Upon being reminded of something, she asked, “What’s the relationship between James and the Callahans, in your opinion? Why would Thea Callahan intervene to protect him? Even the seventh daughter of the Callahans would offend Mount Heavenly Path to protect him.”
Winnie shook her head slightly and signaled her ignorance.
She was not in the mood. Pensive, she contemplated how best to resolve James’ crisis.
While she was deep in contemplation, James found an unknown place and focused wholeheartedly on suppressing Karma and the Heavenly Path’s injuries inside his body. If not for Karma Power, he would be able to suppress the Heavenly Path’s injuries easily to alleviate the pain. However, now that he was contaminated by Karma Power, he could not expel the power no matter how hard he tried. Besides, the more he tried to expel the power, the greater the Karma Power enveloped him. The Heavenly Path’s injuries in combination with Karma caused James’ condition to deteriorate.
At that moment, he was covered in injuries all over his body. This meant that his soul was also greatly damaged. His life was hanging by a thread, and if he failed to endure this, he would lose his life.
James’ consciousness blurred. He knew he would die if he could not endure this. Now, all powers were worthless. The only thing he needed to do was to resist the damage brought about by the Heavenly Path’s injuries and Karma Power with all his willpower. He had no choice.
