In the ward, Penny was lying on the bed, clad in a hospital gown.
When she regained consciousness, she immediately saw Nathan waiting by her bed.
Forcing a smile, she uttered weakly. “Hubby, am still alive?”
Nathan clamped his emotions down and consoled her. “Of course. We promised to live happily ever after, right?”
Penny held his hand, taking in the warmth of his body. “I thought I won't get to see you and Queenie anymore,” she revealed. “In the end, you rushed into the raging flames to save me.”
Her voice was small. “Hubby, it feels so great to ))
see you.
She pulled Nathan's hand and placed it right next to her cheek affectionately.
But soon, she realized Nathan seemed occupied.
“What's wrong?” she inquired.
Nathan then relayed the doctor's words to her.
When Penny found out the doctor told them to be prepared as she might not be able to keep the baby, she burst into tears.
Struggling to sit up, she flung her arms around Nathan and wailed pitifully.
Nathan comforted her gently. “Don't be sad. The doctor said there might be a chance. They are doing their best to protect the baby.”
Penny choked out. “It must not be an optimistic situation. Otherwise, the doctor wouldn't have asked us to be prepared.” “Hubby,” she wailed. “I pity our baby! If he or she leaves us...”
“Our angel will be born into another family,” said Nathan in an attempt to soothe her. “Another couple will be overjoyed to be blessed with our angel.”
He added, “But we won't be this unlucky. I believe good things happen to good people. Our baby will be safe.”
“Mm!” Penny tightened her arms and mumbled in response.
An hour later, Penny calmed down under Nathan's gentle murmurs and fell asleep.
