A death sentence?
Everyone who heard what Nathan had to say bore grim expressions.
They also understood what Nathan meant. Phoebe was to be penalized for her crimes, and after that, she was still to be sentenced to death.
Valois's face immediately sank. “Nathan, the Davier family has already humbled itself before you. My niece has also apologized.”
“You are being overly aggressive and you have gone overboard. What has she done to even warrant such a harsh penalty?”
Nathan looked at Valois indifferently. “Have I gone overboard? Are you sure you want to use that word with me?”
“Your niece and Santiago set fire to the orphanage and almost burned more than two hundred children to death.”
“Then, they shot the rescue helicopter and it crashed, killing three innocent soldiers.”
“My wife is still lying in the hospital, and the doctor told me that my unborn child might not survive."
“With something as big as this hanging over her head, do you think that she can just pour me a cup of tea and apologize for her vicious deeds? You want me to act as if nothing happened?”
“So who the f*ck gave the Davier family the right to do that? Who let you think that a mere apology would rectify the mess they've created?”
Valois and Phoebe's faces were stoic and grim as
they looked at Nathan.
Seeing that things were heading in an unsavory direction, Vadim quickly stood up and tried to pour oil over troubled waters. “General, please, calm down.”
“We understand that the situation in the orphanage was mess, but all of it is Santiago's fault. Ms. Davier is innocent.”
“Please, General, for my sake. Can you go easy on Phoebe?”
“Vadim, I know that you are Clifford Davier's protege, and you have benefited from his recommendation to come to your current position. That is why you are here today.”
“I also understand that you want to uphold the honor and pride of the Davier family. But, you don't have the right to ask this of me.” retorted
Nathan icily.
Vadim's face flushed in deep red.
To begin with, he was the Commander-in-Chief of the Channing City Military, but he had not expected Nathan to reject his request outright.
Valois was also angry when he saw that Vadim's role as a mediator was not remotely useful.
Then, he glared at Nathan. “Don't think that as the General of the North, you somehow have the power to order the Davier family around.”
“As far as I know, Mr. Tucker has an underlying enmity against you. If you want to make enemies of the Davier family, I'd suggest that you think twice.”
The meaning behind Valois's words was very clear. Nathan had already offended Boris Tucker.
