A while later, they finally arrived at the White House.
Because Will had other errands to run, he left first instead of accompanying Nathan into the White House.
Nathan made his way inside alone and sought an audience with the President.
He was ushered into the reception hall. A while later, Camilla appeared in a green dress to greet him.
“How do you do, Aunt Camilla.”
The rest of his subordinates greeted her respectfully as well. “A pleasure to meet you,
Madam!” they chorused.
Camilla looked a little worn-out. With an anxious expression on her face, she tried to smile at Nathan and said, “Nathan, you really came!
Actually, you shouldn't have come at all.”
“Travelling on a plane for so many hours must have taken a toll on you. Besides, lots of people in Brimmopolis are feeling hostile towards you now. With you around, you're only going to give them more chance to act.”
Nathan shook his head. “I owe my life to the President. Once a mentor, always a mentor— now that he's sick, it's only natural that I drop by and visit him.”
Here, Nathan couldn't help but ask, “Aunt Camilla, how's he doing? Can I go in and take a look at him?”
“The doctors just hooked him up to an IV drip and coaxed him to drink a few mouthfuls of soup. He just fell asleep,” Camilla said apologetically.
Immediately, Nathan replied, “I'll come back and visit him when he wakes up tomorrow, then.”
Camilla added quickly, “Nathan, I think it's best if you come and visit him after he recovers.
Recently, he's been very resistant towards seeing anyone, including you.”
Nathan felt a little confused. “Why?”
“He has his pride,” Camilla replied. “He doesn't want people to see him in such a weak, frail state.”
“Your mentor is an important man who wields power over a nation. Everyone looks up to him and respects him.” “Now that he's sick, he is very reluctant that anyone should see him in this state. He doesn't want to destroy the perfect image of himself in your minds, do you understand?”
Nathan sighed. “Alright, then. I'm still on leave now, so I'll stay in Brimmopolis for a few more days. I hope he recovers soon.”
