Salute to the General novel Chapter 1684

The Sanders were wealthy, having assets that were ten times more than the Smith family since twenty years ago.

Penny used to live with the Sanders on weekends for six months when she was studying in university.

Since the Sanders had looked down on the Smith family, Hayley despised Penny even more.

There was once when a rich young man asked Hayley to invite Penny out for drinks but she refused to join them.

Since then, Hayley thought that Penny had embarrassed her. She would always make things difficult for Penny and threw scornful remarks at her whenever they met.

Not long after, Penny stopped staying over at their house and the Sanders moved to Brimmopolis after their business grew bigger. After that, both the Smiths and the Sanders did not keep in touch for many years.

Penny was shocked and seemed perplexed the moment she saw Hayley.

Then, she came back to her senses instantly and greeted, “Oh, it's Penny. I haven't seen you for a long time!”

Hayley replied with a wry smile, “That's true. Since you graduated, my family moved to Brimmopolis. It's been a long time since we last met. I never thought we would run into each other here today. Previously, I've heard gossips about how you were raped by a drunken homeless man and even have an illegitimate child. Apparently, you were almost thrown out by your family. What now? So have you been squatting around Brimmopolis with your husband after getting married?”

Penny's face darkened but she held back and replied calmly, “This is my husband Nathan Cross. We are not squatting but traveling here for a few days.”

Earlier, Hayley overheard Penny and Nathan talking about not wanting to spend much on expensive clothes for some reception.

She was determined that the both of them were not doing well and couldn't even afford to buy good clothes for a reception and were living a hard life.

She deliberately looked at Nathan from head to toe and asked, “I wonder which rich family are you from, Mr. Cross? And what do your parents do?”

For a rich girl like Hayley, she wouldn't even take an entrepreneur seriously, not to mention a working man who couldn't a decent home in this city.

She would only acknowledge rich and powerful young men.

Therefore, the first thing she asked Nathan was about his parents. She wanted to find out if they were government officials or rich businessmen.

Nathan replied indifferently, “I'm not the son of a wealthy family, and my parents had passed away years ago.

Hayley couldn't help but snicker after hearing his words. “Your parents are dead, so you're an orphan. My dear Penny, even though you've been harassed and are no longer a decent maiden, you don't have to give up on yourself by marrying an orphan, haha.”
