Penny had retreated to one side together with Kylie and Colin, blending in with the rest of the crowd. Quiet and reserved as always, she preferred not to stand next to Nathan and the other highly distinguished guests under the limelight.
From the distance, she quietly observed Nathan who shone brightly under the lights. This was the very man she loved and whom she couldn't be prouder of.
Just then, Hayley appeared beside her with two glasses of champagne. “Penny, would you like some champagne? Here, I've brought you a glass,” she said with a fawning smile.
Penny frowned slightly but kept an indifferent tone. “No, thank you. I'm pregnant, so I shouldn't be drinking.”
“Oh my, how did I not know my dear cousin sister is pregnant! I must be blind. Let me get you a glass of milk instead.”
Hayley reappeared after a short while with a glass of milk and blabbered, “I wouldn't have noticed your slightly bulging tummy if you hadn't said anything! According to our belief, a round belly like yours indicates that it's a healthy baby boy. Congratulations, Penny!”
As a woman of virtue, Penny maintained her peaceful composure albeit she wished she could be left alone.
She took the glass of milk which Hayley offered, but held it in her hand the whole time without taking a sip.
Hayley was well aware that Penny still kept her guard up against herself.
Despite that, she persistently stood beside her and continued to shower her with flattering praises. Who could have imagined how awful she had been towards Penny all this while before things took a turn just now?
Penny remained silent and gave an inaudible sigh. Some people are just really pretentious, aren't they?
Needless to say, she knew that Hayley's change of attitude was only because of Nathan.
She was given special treatment only because of her husband.
She gazed at Nathan lovingly, grateful for all the blessings bestowed upon her because of her husband's love and protection.
Then, Simeon saw Leigh, the Xyperian minister, was about to approach Nathan with a
handshake.
Noticing that, Simeon turned towards Kerk with a gloomy expression. “There's no other replacement for you at the moment, unfortunately. Now go, you shall proceed with our original plan and be the General's interpreter.”
Kerk obediently hurried over to Nathan's side.
This was a suspenseful moment witnessed by Camilla, Clifford, and all other leaders and guests who were present. The reporters and journalists closed in anxiously with their cameras and recorders in hand, ever-ready to capture any newsworthy information.
Everybody watched intently as Eurasia's God of War, Nathan Cross, shook hands with Xyperia's Iron Fist, Minister Leigh Kauffman.
“Good evening.” Nathan smiled at the tall, dark figure in front of him whose clear eyes emitted a piercing gaze.
“Minister Leigh, our General is giving you his greetings,” Kerk explained to Leigh and his men in Xyperian language.
