At midnight, at the White House.
Garrett was reviewing the documents in the study room when his wife, Paisley, and the servants brought him supper.
He furrowed his brow, putting the document aside. “Didn't I tell you not to bother me when I'm working?”
“I know you're busy, and you don't like being disturbed. But it's already midnight, and you should eat something. You can't concentrate when you're hungry,” Paisley advised.
Garrett let out a smile. “I didn't feel hungry just now. Well, now I feel like eating something after hearing your words.” “That's because you're too absorbed in your work,” said Paisley with a smile on her face.
Then, she instructed the servant to serve the supper, which included a bowl of vegetable soup and a slice of watermelon.
Garrett came from the grassroots level. After he became the President, he took charge of the country's economy while giving Nathan full authority and control over national security and military-related matters.
In recent years, the country's economic development hit the bottleneck due to the global recession.
Thus, Garrett took the lead in advocating for a reduction in daily expenditure in the White House.
Since then, his daily meals were plain and simple.
Meanwhile, Paisley asked the servant to leave the room while she helped fill the bowl with the soup.
“The soup looks nice. Don't you want to have some?” Garrett asked smilingly.
“I'm not hungry.”
Garrett nodded. “I'll dig in then.”
He had supper while chatting with his wife, enjoying the lovely family moment.
Suddenly, a royal guard came in and reported, “President Woods, the Cabinet secretary, Mr.
Davier is here. He wanted to meet you.”
Clifford?
Both Garrett and Paisley were surprised.
Is there an emergency? Why would Clifford come to meet me in the middle of the night?
Soon, Garrett recalled he heard that a clash broke out between Nathan and the Daviers at the Islesbury Club earlier that afternoon. As a result, the Daviers suffered great losses.
Is Clifford here because of this?
