Upon seeing Sage's reaction, Nathan quickly softened his tone. “Also, tell Elijah and the rest of them to go drinking with me—in private, might | add—if they're free. Get rid of that ridiculous idea of wasting a hefty sum and throwing a fancy celebration for my birthday.”
“Yes, sir,” Sage replied. “I absolutely will inform all the respective commanders what you've said without letting out a single word!” He paused, before continuing with a softer tone, “Though I must say, you turning thirty is a huge deal, sir. I have no doubt that all of them will make time to come to Brimmopolis to celebrate with you just as themselves—as your friends.”
A smile crept up Nathan's face. “I have not seen them in person for a while too,” he sighed. “If they're willing to come to Brimmopolis, we're definitely having a good time...”
Nathan smiled at the thought. In that second, he remembered Clifford's visit last night.
“What was the purpose of Clifford's visit last night?” Nathan asked Sage. “Did he leave right away after I refused to see him?”
Sage beamed with slight amusement at the memory, “No clue, sir. He left after you sent him away, crestfallen.”
Before the last word of the sentence fell, a soldier of the Felidae Battalion entered the room. “Sir, Mr. Valois Davier of the Davier family is outside, requesting for your presence,” he informed.
Nathan and Sage exchanged glances.
“Speak of the devil, huh?” Nathan voice aloud, amused. “Looks like somebody isn't willing to come back on his own after the ruckus he caused last night.
I wonder if he sent his brother as an atonement.” chuckled Sage.
“Do you wish to see Valois, sir?” Sage questioned, glancing at the Chief Military Governor.
Nathan put down the work on his hands. “Let him in,” he replied coolly, “Let's see what the Daviers are up to now.”
Before long, Valois appeared at the doorway, dressed elegantly in a black suit. Behind him were two of his men.
“An honor to meet the great Chief Military Governor, sir!” greeted Valois with his head bowed. His eyes wandered and rested at the mysterious person in front of him, dressed in the phoenix military coat. A pair of eyes peered through the Leviathan mask, accentuated by the mask's golden threads.
“State your business”, stated Nathan in a calm manner.
In reverent, Valois stepped forwards and presented a letter. “Sir, I am here on behalf of my elder brother, Clifford Davier, along with a letter from President Woods. We humbly implore you to fire Nathan Cross from his military rank.” he declared in a clear voice.
Sage took the letter from Valois and handed it to Nathan.
Nathan sliced open the envelope and took out its contents, barely glancing it over before putting it down.
