After arriving at Riverside Garden, Sean parted ways with Nathan and the others and made for home. As for Colin, Ava, and the other bodyguards, they made themselves scarce and left the family to themselves.
By the time everyone was gone, it was only Nathan, Penny, Kylie, Benson, and Leah in the living room.
“Kylie, could you bring Queenie out for a while?” Nathan asked.
Kylie nodded and quickly brought the girl out to the playground.
Everyone in the living room fell into silence after they left.
Before long, Benson finally spoke. “I'm sorry,
Penn. We shouldn't have kept it from you. We didn't let you know earlier because we're afraid you might leave us if you find out we're not your real parents. Could you forgive us for being so selfish?”
Penny shook her head lightly as she tried to swallow back her tears. “I will never blame y'all for it. To be honest, I'm grateful to the both of you for bringing me up and being such loving parents even when y'all know I'm not your daughter.”
Leah wiped away the tears in her eyes and put her hands on her daughter's shoulders. “We won't stop you if you want to go back to the Camdens. They have so much more to offer. You will be able to live to your full potential if you join them. You can still come home and see us when you're free. We will be happy for you. After all, Bowen is your biological father...”
Penny shook her head in determination. “No. I will never leave y'all. I don't want to go to the Camdens. This is my home, and both of you are my parents. I don't care if y'all are my biological parents or not. Both of you took care of me for my whole life, and I won't leave unless y'all chase me away.
Benson and Leah were moved to tears. They pulled Penny into their arms and patted her on her head. “We will never ask you to leave.”
A warm smile curved on Nathan's lips as he looked at the family. “It's a relief to finally talk everything out. I agree with what Penny said. Both of you took care of her and loved her as your own. I'm her husband, so you both will also be my parents.”
The two felt a rush of emotions at Nathan's comforting words.
“But I'm sure Bowen will still send someone over to bring Penny back to the family. After all, she's one of the Camdens,” Leah remarked on second thought.
“Don't worry. I won't allow that to happen unless Penny is willing to go back. I've already warned them that I won't show mercy if they insist on bringing her back,” Nathan assured her.
