Salute to the General novel Chapter 2287

Merwyn slowly sat down on the couch.

He didn't reach out for his cup of tea. Instead, he gave Nathan and Vernon a look and said, “I was supposed to attend an important cabinet meeting today when I heard that the General absolutely have to see me today. I didn't want to come at first, but I figured you might have something important to discuss, so I came.”

Merwyn paused and looked at Nathan calmly. “Anyway, this had better be important. Or else I will report you to the military for disrupting me and my department's work!”

Vernon could tell that a storm was brewing beneath Merwyn’s calm exterior.

Merwyn was his direct boss, whereas Nathan was just Channing's retired God of War.

He felt it necessary to help mediate the matter should Nathan and Merwyn get into an argument.

Hence, he quickly stood up in an attempt to pour oil over troubled waters before Nathan could even speak up.

“Haha. I'm guessing it must be something important. Why else would the General invite Mr. Huntington over with such short notice? But I guess the General must have failed to think things through before doing so and ended up disrupting Mr. Huntington's work. I hope you won't be offended by this, Mr. Huntington. Anyway, it's almost dinner time now, and dinner's on me tonight. So let's all sit down, have a drink, and talk.”

Merwyn had suspected that Vernon was on Nathan's side. His face fell as Vernon tried to mediate the matter. “I usually don't drink and have no interest in going out to dinner with you,” he said in a frosty tone.

Vernon felt embarrassed and a little uneasy upon hearing his words.

I'm done for. I failed miserably as a mediator and behaved like an idiot in front of my superior. I'm afraid I'm going to have a bleak future.

he lowered his head and dared not say anything else.

Nathan merely smiled when he saw Merwyn putting on airs. “I was wondering who instructed Oliver to release those two criminal suspects. I never thought it would be you, Mr. Huntington. I was the one who handed Kristoff and Bowen over to the detention unit to be detained temporarily and was planning to get the relevant authorities to punish them for their evil deeds. Why did you order Oliver to let them off?”

Merwyn narrowed his eyes. “Nathan, are you trying to teach me how to do my work?”

Nathan smiled. “I wouldn't dare. I just wanted to hear your explanation. After all, Kristoff and Bowen tried to assassinate me. I spent a lot of effort trying to capture them, but you let them off just like that. Don’t you think you owe me an explanation?”

Merwyn harrumphed. “Fine then, I'll give you my explanation right now. The thing is, I don't need to explain how I and my department work to you. There, are you satisfied with my answer? If there's nothing else, I'll be taking my leave. Let’s go, Oliver.”

With that, Merwyn stood up and prepared to leave with Oliver and his subordinates.
