Merwyn whipped out his phone and was prepared to dial the Chief Military Governor’s number.
Here goes nothing. Vernon thought as he risked his career by making his way toward Merwyn and tried to talk him out of it. “Mr. Huntington, let’s just talk things out. There's no need to involve the Chief Military Governor in this matter.”
In truth, Merwyn wasn't very confident about calling the Chief Military Governor since he did accept bribes from Kristoff and Bowen.
He paused, purposely gave Nathan a look, and said to Vernon, “Vernon, you're my subordinate too. It's not that I'm trying to make you look bad, but he's too cocky for his own good. You should talk to him instead. I won't file a complaint against him and his subordinate if they apologize to me and compensate my men's medical bills. Or else I won't stand by idly. I will get the Headquarters of the Chief Military Governor and the Chief Military Governor himself involved in this matter.
Vernon immediately turned to face Nathan. “General?” he asked in a weak tone.
Nathan remained calm as ever as he sat on the chair. His lips curled into a smirk.
“Vernon, I appreciate your concern.” He smiled. “However, I am not going to let this slide. I think I've been very clear about my intentions. He can do whatever he wishes since he refuses to come clean.”
“Nathan, you’re asking for it,” Merwyn bellowed.
He then proceeded to call the Chief Military Governor's number.
Vernon shook his head at the turn of events. Fine. I've done my part.Beep...
Beep... Merwyn's call went through, but nobody picked up.
He frowned. “Hmm... Why didn't anyone pick up the phone? Is the Chief Military Governor busy?” he mumbled.
Nathan's smile grew wider.
He had set his phone to silent mode and placed it on the table. Nobody noticed he had received a call.
Merwyn's blood boiled when he saw Nathan's smug smile. “I'll wipe that smirk off your face real soon. I'm going to call the Chief Military Governor till he picks up. It'll be your doomsday then.”
With that, he immediately tried calling the Chief Military Governor again.
