Just when Hepburn was about to talk, Nathan said impassively, “Please, take a seat.”
Ava placed a chair near Hepburn as soon as Nathan said that.
“Thank you,” Hepburn muttered.
Then she sat down in an elegant manner.
Hepburn cleared her throat and said in a serious tone, “Mr. Cross, we have received reports saying that you've antagonized the vampires lately, and now they want you dead. Not only did you wage war against them, but you've also killed their earl, even a duke.”
Nathan listened to her calmly. “So?”
“As you should know, the church has a blood feud with the dark clan. For hundreds and thousands of years, we have not wavered in our effort to get rid of vampires and werewolves alike. We have a long history and experience of fighting them after all this time. The Pope is of the opinion that the church should strengthen our ties with Eurasia, especially us working together in the war against the dark clan.”
Working together, huh?
Nathan was starting to have an inkling of the reason Hepburn was sent here.
The church had been fighting the vampires for eons. Despite having the upper hand all these years, the church had never truly defeated them.
The church had countless followers, and they could always cultivate new warriors to fight for them.
On the other hand, the vampires could never compete with the church in terms of numbers. That was one of the reasons that the vampires were at a disadvantage against the church.
Then again, the true elites of the vampires, especially the vampire dukes and princes who had lived for hundreds and even thousands of years, were leagues ahead of the elites of the church.
Even though the church could suppress the vampires for centuries, they had been unsuccessful at eradicating them.
Could it be that the church is already at the end of its resources and they're seeking to work together with me after knowing that I've killed a few of the vampires?
Nathan's surmise was not far from the reality.
What he did not know was that it had been over a hundred years since the church had last killed a vampire ranked earl and above.
However, to the church's surprise, they had found that Eurasia's God of War, Nathan Cross, had not only killed the infamous earl of the vampires, Niels Tulin, but also a vampire duke, Vince Hopkins.
Given their lack of progress in the nearest century, the news had sent shockwaves through the church, and even the Pope himself had been alerted.
Astounded after hearing the reports on Nathan's prowess, the Pope had gone silent for quite some time before he finally said, “This is unbelievable. Could he really be the chosen one?”
The church had always made it their priority and mission to exterminate the dark clan.
