Nathan had been waiting in the Curia hall for nearly half an hour.
Eugene IV finally arrived, albeit belatedly.
Eugene IV, accompanied by his entourage, quickly approached Nathan, his face flushed with embarrassment. “I'm sorry, Mr. Cross, for keeping you waiting,” he said.
Nathan said with a smile, “I understand that you have a busy schedule, Pope Eugene.”
Eugene IV looked utterly embarrassed.
Nathan smiled and reached out to shake hands with Eugene IV.
Both parties sat down.
Eugene IV suppressed his smirk, deliberately asking, “I've recently heard, Mr. Cross, that you've been ill and have taken leave to recuperate. Why have you suddenly come to see me?”
Nathan smiled and said, “I was planning to take a break for a while due to some health issues. But upon learning that the vampires are making a comeback, I hurried over to discuss our countermeasures with you, Pope Eugene.”
Eugene IV glanced at Nathan, lifting his teacup, and said with a hint of sarcasm, “Mr. Cross, you really do seem to care about the vampires!”
Nathan chuckled lightly, “Our Earth is now not only facing threats from Gods in outerspace, but also dealing with the chaos caused by vampires within the Earth itself. We're beset with troubles both from within and without, how can I not be concerned?”
Upon hearing Nathan mention the Gods, Eugene IV seemed a bit guilty, letting out a couple of forced laughs before changing the subject. “Mr. Cross,” he asked, “what brings you here this time?”
Nathan said nonchalantly, “I wouldn't go as far as to give orders, but I do have a small suggestion. I wonder if you would be willing to hear it.”
Eugene IV sat up straight, his face serious. “Mr. Cross, please feel free to speak.”
