The setting sun on the horizon was a deep, crimson color.
Nathan and Colin sat in a taxi as it sped toward the airport on the outskirts, giving them the perfect view of the glorious sunset.
As it turned out, the men were preparing to leave Salinsburgh by plane.
Just then, two cars in front of them suddenly overturned on the road, sending shards of glass scattered all around and leaving faint traces of blood.
A woman and several men stood together, seemingly arguing about something.
The taxi driver furrowed his brows and quickly pulled over. “What's going on?” he muttered. “Has an accident caused this roadblock?”
By then, Colin and Nathan, who were in the front passenger and back seats, were also frowning.
They could both tell that something was amiss.
Growing increasingly impatient, the taxi driver rolled down his window and stuck his head out. “What's the matter with you guys? Can you step aside and let my car pass first?”
Upon hearing that, the people up ahead turned around in unison.
Unbeknownst to the driver, the men and woman were Gods disguised as humans, two of whom were Alden and Cassandra.
Alden and Cassandra instantly exchanged a glance. They knew their target had arrived.
The next second, Cassandra strutted toward the taxi in her high-heeled boots and fished out an object about the size of a fist.
After slapping the mysterious item onto the taxi's windshield, she spun on her heels and sashayed away, leaving the driver utterly dumbfounded.
Colin and Nathan, too, watched the small gadget on the windshield warily.
It was neither made of gold nor iron, but it seemed to be imbued with immense energy and even radiated a circle of light.
More importantly, it was also emitting a constant beeping sound.
As the light grew increasingly bright and the beeps got louder, it was as if the gadget was issuing a final warning.
That was when the realization hit Colin hard. “Oh, no. It's an explosive device!”
“Run!” Nathan shouted.
Bang! Bang!
Without further ado, Nathan and Colin acted simultaneously, with Colin kicking the passenger door open while Nathan did the same to the rear door.
