Nathan and the others were dumbfounded.
Shadowbeard took a few steps ahead, noticing that Nathan and the others hadn't caught up. He widened his eyes in urgency. “Hurry up, what are you all standing around for? This place is dangerous. Don't you care about your lives?”
Destroyer and the others exchanged glances before finally directing their gaze unanimously at Nathan.
Nathan spoke softly. “He means no harm. Let's just walk with him for a while and see how it goes.”
Destroyer and the others responded, “Yes!”
Seeing that Nathan and the others had caught up, Shadowbeard was satisfied. He carefully took the lead, clearing the path ahead.
There were no paths in the primeval forest, making every step a challenge.
Shadowbeard, however, was as patient as an old ox, tirelessly paving the way for Nathan and his group. When they encountered thorns and weeds, he would simply tread over them, creating a path as he went.
Whenever he encountered a mountain stream that was difficult to traverse, he would simply snap off tree trunks to build bridges and pave the way.
Everyone walked for half a day.
When they were tired, they took a break.
Nathan and Destroyer took out their rations and clean water and began to eat and drink.
Shadowbeard was dumbfounded.
He didn't have any food.
Nathan noticed Shadowbeard eyeing the food in his hand. He handed over the small bag of dried venison, saying, “Here. This is for you.”
Shadowbeard's eyes lit up. “Thank you!”
He took the dried venison and began to devour it ravenously. As a vampire, he truly mistook himself for a human at that moment, enjoying the meal with great relish.
Nathan exchanged glances with Destroyer and the others.
Everyone's expressions were quite complex at that moment.
