Pew!
The colossal beam of light, spewed out by the engine, was heading toward Nathan.
He let out a low shout, raising his left hand.
In front of his left hand, a black vortex appeared in a flash, acting like a black hole that swallowed the beam of light spewing toward it.
Unfortunately, the energy emitted by the engine was genuinely too powerful.
Even someone as strong as Nathan couldn't handle it.
The black vortex before his left hand, upon swallowing the beam of light for only a second, became extremely unstable and exploded with a thunderous boom.
“Mr. Cross!”
“Eve—”
Colin and the rest, as well as the Gods present at the scene, yelled on instinct.
The moment it exploded, Nathan had already grabbed Eve, quickly retreating backward.
Even so, he was still injured, and blood spilled from the corner of his mouth.
On the contrary, Eve was unharmed, thanks to his protection.
For a moment, she looked into Nathan's eyes, her gaze particularly conflicted.
People on the scene, as well as those Gods, rushed over upon hearing the commotion to rescue them.
Nathan turned his head, looked at Eve, and queried, “Are you okay?”
“I... I'm fine... Thank you, Master, for saving me just now.”
Seemingly guilty, she dared not meet his eyes.
In truth, with her skills, she could've long fixed this engine.
Yet, she intentionally did not fix it and kept dragging it on, even tampering with it.
Her motive was to feign an accident when Nathan came for an inspection.
Eve was well aware that he deeply valued her, a God engineer, so he wouldn't bear to see her die in front of him.
She even daringly gambled that he would surely step forward to save her when the accident happened.
Her anticipated outcome was to perish alongside Nathan in this accident.
What she never expected was that almost everything went as she had predicted, except that she had underestimated his strength.
