My mind was still a fog. "Just what is going on?”
I heard a laugh again. It was from Sylvester.
His smiling gaze was directed at me, and the smile on his lips seemed to be mocking me. "Seeing that neither of you will be leaving the gates of Yard Mansion today, I’ll let you leave with a clear understanding of this world.”
"What do you mean?!" My complexion suddenly changed.
"The gates closed the moment we stepped into Yard Mansion. Even if we can escape this room, we can't escape the mansion," Theo said to me after coming to a realization.
“Did you just think about it now? It's too late, President Grant," Sylvester snorted coldly. He then clapped his hands and several men in black immediately poured in from behind us to surround us.
Theo looked calm as he stood in front of me, shielding me. "You think too highly of us, President Yard. You prepared so many people just for the two of us.”
Hearing Theo's words, Sylvester replied, “When my opponent is President Grant, I can’t be too careless.”
"Theo..."
I tugged at the corner of his coat. Would we really not be able to escape today?
Theo patted the back of my hand before looking back at Sylvester. "Aren’t you going to make sure we pass with clear understanding? Start, then. Were Nibel and Nicky both part of your plan?"
"When I found out that Silas was looking for his granddaughter, I didn't actually think much about it. That was until I overheard his conversation with the housekeeper. He said he must find his granddaughter and entrust the Yards to her. Despite me being capable, I’m forever the outsider. He won’t hand over everything related to the Yard family to me. From that moment on, the glimmer of hope I had for him extinguished. As it turned out, I’ve always been an outsider to him.”
Sylvester smiled coldly. "I understood it too late. I should’ve known that ever since I was ten. After I learned about that, I secretly sent someone to investigate and finally found you.”
He looked at me, his gaze amused. "I deliberately released information to let Silas know that you were here. Truthfully, it was also to give him a chance. I would’ve changed my plan as long as he changed his mind. I didn't expect him to be so happy, though. He even stopped hiding it from me, telling me that he found you and asking me to go get you. At the time, I thought that if I wanted to become the heir to the Yards, then you couldn’t live.”
Sylvester’s once harmless eyes were grim. "Nibel had already worked with the Yards before. I learned from his own mouth that he wanted to take down Grant Corporation and deliberately used Nicky who was related to you to lure him in. I used her to take you to the secret village. I had wanted you to fend for yourself but didn’t expect you to come out safe and sound. I truly underestimated you. Then, Nicky fled the country. Nibel heard about Cecilia from her and learned that she was your best friend, so that became a great opportunity. Thus, I encouraged Nibel to persuade Nicky into getting plastic surgery to look like Cecilia. Nicky’s return then would not simply be just for President Grant but also break you two apart. After that, I would have found an opportunity to make you disappear, Wanda, but I didn't expect to put everything together again. You husband and wife duo are really smart and witty.”
He sighed and looked at us with reluctance in his eyes. "Tell me, how do you expect me to accept that? Since it was time for me to appear in person, I did. Nibel wanted to defeat the Grants to occupy a place in Whaldorf City and had to work with me. No one knows you better than I do.”
