Chapter 252
Lizetta grabbed it and was about to hunker down to replay the video because Remington’s reaction was off. She felt like he hadn’t really paid attention.
She wanted him to take another look, but realized that the video had vanished from her album.
Gone just like that, it had to be Remington who deleted it.
Lizetta, not ready to throw in the towel, checked the cloud storage only to find it wiped clean there too.
She stared at Remington in disbelief, “What’s your deal?”
“I’ve said it before, the kid’s not mine. Did you really think you could con me into pouring billions into the Hawthorne family?” Remington said with an emotionless face, clearly unphased by the video.
Lizetta gaped at him, baffled, “So, you knew the kid wasn’t yours, but you still let Evelina sweet–talk you into willingly investing in the Hawthorne family?”
Remington nodded, “There are some reasons, I’ll fill you in later.”
A twinge of pain prickled through Lizetta’s heart.
What kind of reasons could a man have to help a woman like this?
They were talking billions here, not chump change, and Remington’s top dog in the business world. Even if it’s not out of love, there’s gotta be sympathy or a soft spot.
Besides, this whole time, Hanna’s been under the impression that Evelina’s kid is Remington’s, and he hasn’t bothered to set the record straight.
He’s been all too happy to play dad from the get–go, even knowing the kid isn’t his, and even knowing Evelina’s got a side guy, he’s still game to tolerate her.
With him being all selfless for Evelina, why should Lizetta work herself into a frenzy for him?
What a joke.
Lizetta forced a laugh.
She suddenly shoved Remington away and stood up, “If you knew all along, then I guess I’m just beating a dead horse here. We’re divorced, I’m outta here. You never cared to explain to your wife before, so save your breath, I don’t want to hear it now, I’m not interested!”
With that, Lizetta turned to leave.
Remington frowned, grabbing her wrist, “Joseph’s treatment should be ending soon, where are you off to?”
Lizetta jerked her hand away, “I’m not going there, to avoid an unpleasant run–in with your mother.”
She was worried about Joseph, but staying wasn’t helping.
With Nathan and the gang there, she couldn’t even get close to the bedside, why bother asking for trouble?
Lizetta turned and quickly walked away. Remington watched her cold departure and considered following, but his phone rang.
It was Nathan, probably an update about Joseph.
Reluctantly, Remington turned and walked briskly in the opposite direction.
On the way back, Lizetta felt like she had a rock sitting in her chest.
She pulled out her phone, opened the ticketing app, and stared at the flight she had booked earlier.
Thinking she’d soon leave all this mess behind felt liberating.
Abroad, she had her beloved dance and her sweet baby.
Leaving without running into any more troublemakers, Lizetta’s mood slowly brightened.
But, as fate would have it, before she made it home, Fiona’s call came through.
“Liz, get back to the hospital, now.”
“Grandma? What’s wrong?”
