Chapter 265

Fiona was gently stroking Lizetta’s hand, the affection was palpable.
She had to agreed.
How could she not? The scene in the hospital today made it crystal clear to Fiona.
Maybe letting this kid go was the real kindness.
She just hoped her grandson, who was too high and mighty to ever bow down, didn’t end up regretting this!
“Let’s hit the road, kiddo. I have always believed you didn’t do it, you’re not the kind of person to do such things. I know what you’re yearning for, to make things right for you, to have Remington tie the knot with you. You two grew up together, tight as can be. Surely, you’ll have each other’s backs for life.
Remington might be a bit cold, but you’re a tender and meticulous kid. With you by his side, I can rest easy. Who would have thought…
Ah, I don’t know anymore if the decision back then was the right one.”
Listening, Lizetta’s eyes were brimming with a bitter sweetness, her heart twisted in knots.
Her and Remington, was it a forced bad fate that ended up bearing bitter fruit?
But she never regretted it, because to her, a bad fate was still fate, and the bitter fruit was still fruit.
Only after tasting it herself did she know the flavor, enough to savor it for a lifetime.
Besides, it wasn’t like she walked away empty–handed; he gave her a baby.
It was just too bad that Fiona has been longing to cuddle a great–grandson, and now she couldn’t even break the news to her
Feeling guilty, Lizetta said, “Grandma, please don’t talk like that. I’ve always been grateful to you, thank you.”
“Alright, you’ve put up with a lot these past few years. I’m getting old, can’t protect you anymore. Fly away, fly high, I believe you will find
your own sky and ocean. And if you get tired, remember, no matter when, this will always be your home, and I will always welcome you
back, got it?”
Fiona was caressing Lizetta’s hair, and Lizetta was fighting back tears, but they still dampened Fiona’s sweater, drop by drop.
Lizetta nodded vigorously, recalling how she came to Fiona’s side when she was eight and how Fiona gave her a home.
2
How Fiona protected and loved her, treating her like her own granddaughter.
And now that Fiona was getting on in years, it was time for her to be filial, but instead, she had worried Fiona sick, and leaving the
country meant she couldn’t be the apple of her eye, leaving Fiona with more worries, making Lizetta’s heart heavy with guilt.
“You’ve got to follow the doctor’s orders, no more hiding your meds, and no sneaking snacks at midnight. Follow the doctor’s advice,
okay?”
“Alright, alright.”
“Take good care of yourself. You’ve got to live a long life and see me make it to the biggest international stages.”
“Of course, I’m going to be the grandma of world–class dancer Lizetta, the envy of grandmas worldwide.”
“Shall we pinky promise?”
Lizetta made a pinky promise with Fiona.
Remington, having applied burn ointment after his shower and changed clothes, caught a glimpse of this scene through the crack in
the door.
Not wanting to intrude, he closed the door carefully and headed downstairs.
Cedric was already waiting and approached as he saw him, “Boss, Ms. Hawthorne is kicking up a fuss wanting to see you.”
Evelina was wheeled out of the operating room half an hour after her amniocentesis, a procedure that didn’t require anesthesia. Seeing nobody waiting for her, she started causing a scene.
Remington nodded, “Let’s roll.”
Cedric glanced in the rearview mirror and, sure enough, spotted an inconspicuous black car trailing behind them.
Frowning. Cedric said, “Mr. Dashiell, maybe we should have Ray beef up the security. That woman has been tailing us for days. She’s out
for revenge, and I’m worried.”

Remington had no intention of sitting Hands in his pockets, he stepped up to the bedside. No need, I just say a few words and then
Evelina hodded, her fingers twined together nervously.
Remington’s icy gaze met Evelina’s, “You know why I wanted that paternity test. Take a look.”
He pulled out his phone and tossed it in front of Evelina.
Holding on to a sliver of hope, Evelina wished it wasn’t what she feared most.
Her fingers trembled as she tapped open the video. The shaky footage and the intimate sounds of a man and a woman filled the air.
Even prepared, Evelina’s face went white with shame and she quickly deleted the video, tossing the phone aside.
Her body shook. Of course, it was Lizetta, that bitch, who’d bumped into her in the garden.
Damn her for recording such a thing and showing it to Remington.
Evelina bit her lip hard, filled with hatred and humiliation.
