ZOE reminded herself one fine morning not to be affected by Helios’ cold demeanor toward her.
‘It’s for the better, Zoe,’ she thinks to herself as she enters the building.
She made the decision to get up early and get to work before seven a.m. And, much to her surprise, the guards informed her that Helios had already entered his office.
Helios had begun to treat her coldly since the accident. And here she is, standing in front of his office door, thinking if she will get in or not.
She had already printed her resignation letter the day before. But she wasn’t sure if she would give it to him. Finally, she conceals it in the drawer of her table.
At the time, she was holding a stack of documents that needed to be signed by Helios, and as her secretary, Zoe couldn’t avoid the fact that he would see him every day. It’ll be fine if she’s in the other department. But sadly, she’s just outside his office.
She took a deep breath and sighed before knocking on the door. She twisted the doorknob and pushed the door open, her lips pressed together.
She noticed Helios, who was busy writing some documents from the day before. She hemmed to clear her throat, hoping to catch his attention, but she was unsuccessful. Instead, she heard his icy tone.
“Just put it down and leave.”
Zoe sighed and bit her lower lip as she approached his table. When he got a closer look, he realized what he was doing, and she put down the documents.
“These are from the Finance Department. And you have a meeting with an investor at 4,” she said.
On the other hand, Helios didn’t even pause or look at her.
Zoe sighed once more and turned to face the door. Helios stopped her just as she was about to reach for the doorknob.
“We’ll reschedule the meeting for this afternoon. I have to attend an important meeting in Cali,” he said, making Zoe’s eyes widen, and she turned to him.
“California? Are you taking a plane or—”
“You’re out of it. You’re merely my assistant,” he stated coldly. It gave her skin chills all the way up to her head.
Even though Helios was not looking at her, she smiled and nodded.
“I’m simply inquiring so that I’m aware. When will...” She came to a halt when Helios raised his head to meet her gaze.
“Ms. Levine, why do you have so many questions?”
Zoe’s heartbeat was quick.
Miss Levine?
Things are different now because he’s not calling her by her name or calling her a baby.
Before leaving his office, Zoe shook her head and smiled. She leaned against the wall and closed her eyes as she shut the door.
“He’s different now,” she said quietly.
She snorted. She was well aware that it was her fault. And she can’t undo what she’s already done.
She puffed her cheeks as she approached her desk. She was about to turn on her computer when she noticed Chloe approaching her desk.
Her eyes widened in awe, and she quickly smiled.
“Good morning, Ms. Chloe,” she said, standing up and smiling at the lady.
“Good day, dear. In any case, is Helios inside?” She inquired.
“Yes, Ms. Chloe,” Zoe said with a nod. “You can enter.”
Chloe gave a soft chuckle. “Call me Chloe...”
“I’m Zoe. His assistant. Since you’re important to Sir Lincoln, you can just enter,” she said and smiled at her.
Chloe gave a big smile. “Aww, thank you so much, Zoe. You’re adorable,” she said as she walked into Helios’ office.
Zoe sighed too deeply as she reclined in her chair. “Important?” she mumbled.
Did she really just say that? And why does it appear that she did something wrong?
Why does it feel like something struck her heart when Chloe walked in?
She shook her head and went back to work. She needs to focus on her work in order to divert her attention away from Helios and Chloe.
‘You’re such an in-denial queen, Zoe,’ she thought.
She knew she liked him and was jealous of Chloe, but what was she doing? She’s even assisting the young lady.
She shook her head and began typing on her computer when the phone next to her rang.
She frowned as she answered the phone. “Yes, Sir?”
Of course, it’s Helios’ line, whereas the other phone was for the different departments.
“I need the report for the new company that I’m starting...”
“Come on, Helios... Give me a kiss and touch me —”
Zoe yelled as she dropped the phone. Then she realizes what she’s done. She licked her bottom lip. “It’s a damn shame.”
Did she just get a phone call from her boss?
She’ll be doomed.
‘What’s the matter with me?’ she thought as she bit the tip of her thumb.
So, what if Chloe desires Helios’s kiss and touch? What’s the big deal?
What does it mean to her?
Damn! She cursed inside her mind.
She has no idea what will happen to her—what Helios will do to her now that she has disrespected him. She just fucking dropped the call.
She stood up because she couldn’t concentrate, and she desperately needed a cup of coffee to calm her down.
She was about to turn left when she heard the door to Helios’ office open, causing her to look in that direction.
Her eyes widened when she noticed Helios, who was leaning against the jamb with his arms clasped to his chest.
She gulped and was about to open her mouth when she noticed Chloe smiling at her.
“What’s the matter, Helios?” Chloe inquired, turning to face Helios. “Are you harassing your assistant in order to get overworked like you?”
Zoe was taken aback by what Chloe had said.
Helios turned to face Chloe. “Just leave Chloe. I’ve been very busy today, and I even had a meeting this afternoon.”
Chloe pressed her lips together. “You’ve missed me, and now you’re shooing me?”
Helios pinched the bridge of her nose. “Let’s meet over dinner. Is it fine?”
Chloe’s eyes brightened, causing Zoe to look away, and she was about to leave when Helios intervened.
“We’re not done yet, Ms. Levine,” he said, turning back to Chloe.
“I’ll come to get you later. But for the time being, let me work,” he said.
Chloe held his tie as she adjusted his collar and lightly tapped his chest. “All right, fine. Please call me when you’re on your way.”
Helios nodded.
Chloe then exited his office and turned to face Zoe. “Hello, lovely. Please let me know if your boss is—”
“Chloe.” It’s Helios.
Chloe chuckled as she rolled her eyes. “Whatever. Helios, don’t be too hard on Zoe. She’s too cute to do your bossy things.”
Helios’ brow furrowed as he looked at Zoe. “I am the boss. So, what do you anticipate?” He said those things without looking away from Zoe.
Chloe smacked his arm, causing Helios to frown.
“Don’t let yourself get too cold. Anyway, see you,” she said as she pressed her lips against Helios’.
When Zoe noticed this, she immediately averted her gaze. Her heart was thumping too fast and too loudly in her chest. Her lips were pressed together.
Isn’t that what she wanted?
“I’ll see you later, Helios!”
Hearing this brought Zoe back to reality, and she dashed towards the pantry without looking back, even when Chloe called her name.
She closes the door and leans into it as soon as she enters the pantry. She clutches her blouse and closes her eyes as she feels her heart... attempting to calm it.
She shook her head and walked over to the counter to make her coffee.
“This isn’t good,” she murmured.
HELIOS let out a deep sigh as he watched Zoe walk away. He couldn’t figure out why Zoe was acting so strangely.
He was well aware that Zoe did not adore him. But why does he believe she is envious of him?
He bit his lower lip and resisted the urge to follow Zoe. He returned to his office and sat back in his swivel chair.
He took out one of the documents and opened it. He tried to read it, but his vision was blurry. He then closes the folder and places it on the table.
He swiveled his chair towards the glass wall and gazed outside as he tried to relax.
Suddenly, his mind brought up the accident.
How could he be so rash? Why does he need to get affected by just a girl?
So, what if Zoe doesn’t fall in love with him?
He acknowledges Zoe’s point. They won’t be able to rush things. And now he’s treating her coldly.
She, on the other hand, stole his pride. He gave his all, but Zoe shows him that he’s not worth it.
He was ready to reveal his secret and clear things up about himself—the real him. But it appears that fate does not want him to talk about Icarus any further.
But what if Zoe hates him for admitting it?
And every time he was about to say it, something terrible would happen. It appears to be a sign that it is not yet time, to tell the truth.
But Helios can’t keep it up any longer.
Zoe must be informed. Whatever the consequences, she must be aware that he is Orion Helios.
