DAYS had gone by. Helios pretended to be involved in his relationship with Chloe. He accompanied Chloe on all of her errands, including the selection of cakes, decorations, and clothing.
Helios could see Chloe’s joy in her eyes. They’re inexplicable, but he knew it was everything the woman had ever desired.
Helios initially assumed that Chloe would understand his feelings for Zoe. He assumed she would not object, but in the end... Chloe pushed through the engagement with his father’s help.
Helios was well aware that the wedding would benefit their mafia clan. Chloe’s brother is also a member of a mafia organization and one of its top leaders. His father intends to unite with their family in order to strengthen their power and become more daring.
Chloe knows nothing about the mafia, and that will remain the case.
Helios preferred that their engagement be kept private. However, Chloe and his father are opposed to the idea, but after he explains the potential threat, they agree. As promised, their future wedding will be broadcast on NYC television.
“Babe, which flavor do you prefer?” Chloe inquired as to when the waiter would place the sample slices of cake for their engagement party.
Helios’ brow furrowed as he reached for the spoon. He nibbled on the chocolate Bavarian on the left, then the four-season vanilla on the right.
“I prefer the chocolate Bavarian,” he said as he set the spoon down.
Chloe smiled broadly and nodded. “Perfect. What about the—” When Helios’ phone rings, Chloe comes to a halt.
Helios locked his gaze on Chloe, waiting for her permission. Chloe recognized the caller who appeared on Helios’ phone screen. She then nodded and smiled. “Answer it. It could be important,” she speculated.
Helios wanted to smile, but he couldn’t.
Guess he’s good at pretending, huh?
Helios stood up and answered the phone. It’s a good thing it was Grant.
“Dude!”
When Helios heard Grant’s loud voice, he frowned.
He sighed and looked down, resting his left hand on the railing. “What?”
“Zoe was already aware of your plans and...” Helios’ brow furrowed as Grant came to a halt.
“And?”
Grant gave a soft chuckle. “She concurred. She is willing to cooperate and understands.”
Helios sighed in relief at that moment. He looked around to make sure no one was watching him. “Great. We just need to finalize the engagement,” he explained.
“Yes, yes, yes.”
“Let’s meet later. See you in my penthouse,” Helios said before hanging up the phone. After that, he walked and returned his attention to Chloe.
“Let’s go,” he said, looking at Chloe.
Chloe raised her hand, asking Helios for help. Helios then took her hand in his and guided her up.
Chloe was content on the inside.
However, she has no idea that it was all Helios’ plan. His sweetness and tender care were all part of his schemes.
Despite his desire to be with Zoe and his child, Helios heeded Grant’s advice and practiced the art of patience.
“I’m going to send you home—”
“No! I’d like to visit your penthouse. I’d like to go there. You didn’t bring me there—”
“I’ve got a lot of work to do, Chloe—”
“Babe. Call me ‘babe,’ Helios,” she said.
Helios sighed and smiled faintly. “I’m going to send you home. Chloe, you need to get some beauty rest. I don’t want my future bride to look awful,” he said, making Chloe frown.
“Are you for real? I am still beautiful even if I had a sleepless night. Helios, I’m a model. Are you making fun of me?” As she faced him, she inquired.
Helios shook his head and fixed his gaze on the road. “No, Chloe, that’s not what I mean—”
“Babe.”
Helios let out a soft chuckle. “Okay, babe. You’re beautiful. It’s just that I don’t want you to get tired.”
When Chloe heard those words from Helios, her eyes twinkled, and her heart thumped quickly.
“You’re such a sweetheart, babe. I know I don’t have complete control over your heart, but I know it’s not that difficult for you to love me,” she said.
Following that, there was silence. Helios wanted to puke upon hearing it. He’s not good at pretending, but for Zoe’s sake... he’ll do anything.
