“MOMMY, won’t Grant pick us up here?” Zoe asked as they were putting their things away. While Cindy held her baby and fed her, the baby cried. Her mom just sat on the couch and watched her.
“Not anymore. He said he would just wait for us at the airport. “Then he’ll take us home,” her mom said.
“Look at how the wrong Grant timed it. We need him now, but he’s not coming. Even though I didn’t want to see him, he couldn’t wait to get here.” Zoe put her last suitcase on top of her brown one. She told her mom, “I’m going straight home to our old apartment.”
Her mother looked at her and raised her left eyebrow. It looked like she didn’t want to hear what her daughter had told her. She asked, “Who will take care of your child then? Won’t that put you both in danger?”
Zoe moved toward Cindy’s house. “Mom, it’s into me. I’m not going to work yet anyway,” she said.
“Hey, witch, for now, just stay in California. Next month, I’ll be busy, and I’m sure the twins are still busy with their business. They are responsible for a lot. No one will be with you,” Cindy told her.
“I can handle my daughter,” Zoe said.
“Honey, it would be better if we all stayed at your aunt’s apartment. You have us locked up. If you want, we could hire a maid for your daughter if you want to,” her mother said.
Zoe let out a big sigh. Mom and her best friend were right. She knew it wasn’t easy to take care of Hela since she was getting bigger every day. She was also a first-time mother. Even though she’s been taking care of Hela Selene since she was born, it’s hard for her to do both parenting and housework at the same time. She knows that, too. She just thought it would be easy, but her mind and body were telling her different things.
Hela was a very active little girl. She is different from the other baby in that she doesn’t cry when you give her food or a toy. Instead, she stays quiet in the corner. Hela, you can’t get her to do what you want with anything but her mother’s breast. She gets what she wants. That’s how hard the baby is to please. But it’s fun to take care of her smart daughter, so it’s nice to do that. You can always tell when a baby is smart, and Hela is already smart at such a young age.
Zoe did a great job of raising her daughter. She hopes that she will always be healthy.
“Baby, come to mom.” Her daughter, who had just finished eating, was in her arms. “Alright. We are the only family there, after all. But don’t worry about getting a babysitter for Hela, mom. I’m good with my daughter.” At least, she thought, I’ll try. And as a mother, it’s her job to do so. She really cared about it.
“Okay, but it would be easier if she had her own maid. Or I’ll just ask Helios to come over?”
Zoe’s eyes got bigger. “Mom, you know that’s not a funny joke. You’re giving him too much trouble with the way you do things.”
“What? Nothing is wrong with Helios. Sweetheart, the problem is only with you. Because you’re not paying attention to him and making him leave,” her mother told her.
Zoe just rolled her eyeballs. She knew there was nothing she could hide from her mother. Her mother was like an all-knowing psychic. Her mother had a good sense of what was going on and knew what had happened. With the way Cindy talks, she might get the information from her. There is no question about that.
“Where’s aunt Millie, mom?”
“Whoa, she’s switching the subject. Hmm…” Cindy made fun of her as she washed the plate and spoon that her daughter had used.
Zoe just wanted to know where her aunt was. Where’s the problem?
“Let’s change it. Anyway, when did our flight leave? Did you take a flight with a stopover, Cindy?” Zoe asked.
“It’s eight o’clock at night. We should get on the plane two or three hours before takeoff. And the time is already 5 o’clock. Grant has already solved all the problems. Maybe you should take a bath and move more quickly?”
“Connecting flight?”
“Of course not. It’s direct, okay? So, let me carry your daughter while you take a shower and put on clothes. Time is running out, Zoe,” Cindy said.
Then Zoe did what Cindy had just said.
When her friends picked her up, Hela was a good girl. And she has no problem with that at all. But if Hela wants something and you don’t give it to her, she will throw a fit, which is not easy to deal with. She was still young, but she already liked to be in charge.
If things weren’t so complicated between her and Helios, he might have helped her raise their daughter.
But now, she was holding on to the fact that Helios had told her he loved her. Then there’s a chance that her daughter’s family will be whole. They’ll have to deal with it. To get together again.
